I have read a few posts on here about people being bit by sand fleas while on the beach. How do you avoid that? Does regular insect repellent work? (like "off" or "cutter")

The fleas dont normally hatch until about late afternoon 4pm onwards if there are any but yes..OFF or any similar insect repellent will work. Try to stay away from seaweed or sand dunes as this is where they come from. :thumbsup2

Don't dig in the sand around where you are sitting, any insect repellent is okay. Don't pour liquids into the sand around you. I noticed this a few years ago its seems to make them worse. I don't have any facts just experience with the little pain in the butts. :rotfl2:

Oh Great! I was planning to bring my little ones (ages 2,4+6) to play on the beach before dinner to dig in the sand! :lmao: I figured it would settle them down and help them cooperate at the table. I'll definitely bring insect repellent!

Thanks for the replies!

Stay away from any sort of scented soap, body lotions, etc. When putting on Off or Cutter, have the kids strip down and spray them all over with a good layer, let them run around a bit in the room to let it air dry. Put on swim suits and spray the suit too. Sounds crazy, but you sit in the sand and bugs don't care if they bite your butt or your legs. Don't spray the face, but spray your hands and then rub necks and ears.
