Hi. Has anyone gone to or going to the sand dollar invitational in January? If you have gone, do you have any suggestions or comments to share? We are considering letting our daughter compete but wanted to hear what others had to say.

It's a gymnastics meet held at the Disney Wide World of Sports Complex.

I've never been to Sand Dollar, but as a gymnastics judge, I've heard of it. It's a very large and well-known meet that attracts a lot of good optionals gymnasts from around the country. It's run by Orlando Metro, which is a great gym, so I would expect it to be well-run.

Oh... I just noticed you're from the Eastern Shore of MD... what gym are you from... Twisters? DelMarVa?

My daughter was at Midcoast (Selbyville, DE) but we just switched to Twisters this past week. Do you ever judge them in competition?

More gymnastics folks on the board!! I am a coach/gym owner from Illinois!! HI all...have considered the Sand Dollar but a bit too far. We are a new gym, only opened 5 years. Maybe when we have lots of level 9's, not just 2, we will head down that way. What a great place to have a meet!!

The gym we are going with is sort of new too and only has level 2-7. I think it would be fun even for the younger girls. Our daughter is only level 4 but we are considering it anyway. Plus we can use it as an excuse to hit Disney again. And another bonus is that they have off of school that Friday and Monday so they won't miss too much!

Dani, sounds fun to me! Would the whole team (or most of it) be going, or are you looking into the meet on your own?

And, yes, I do judge Twisters from time to time. I've never been to their gym, but the team has been at various meets I've done.

engle, I lived and judged in IL for a year! The '03-'04 season, I was living in downtown Chicago.

Btw... if you want to know a funny thing, there are surprising number of BIG disney fans among the MD judges. The state judging director is a DVC owner (as am I), and another judge is having a WDW wedding later this year. Plus there are a few others who are just big fans!

The Sand Dollar is the best meet we have ever attended. I have pm'd Dani but for Engle you should really look into it. My dd's team went for the first time last year and had a great time. We found airfare on Spirit for $120 RT and they offer rooms at All Star Sports for $60 a night. We are from MI and it was cheaper than going to Chicago. My dd's level 5 team took first and level 6 took second place. We can't wait to go back this year.

Not sure who all is going as we just switched this past week but we are definately considering it. Hopefully all will go well and we can make it!!
