San Juan Capistrano and the beach

We are planning on going to San Juan Capistrano Mission one day and were going to combine it with a trip to the beach. I would like any suggestions on beaches between DL and the Mission. We are going the last week of August, possibly on a Saturday and I'm also wondering if the beaches will very supper busy and should we do the beach first and then the Mission.

There is a beach just south of the mission..Doheny Beach. Shouldn't you do the mission first so that you are not sandy and sticky? Our beaches are always busy on the weekends.
