Going with friends to San Francisco this weekend. Staying on points at The Fairmont from the Concierge Collection. Seems to be a good deal and had no problem booking. Will report back with how it goes. I can't wait!!!

Looking forward to your report. The Fairmont is supposed to be a VERY nice hotel!

Subscribing so I can hear about the trip...any excuse to go to SF! ANd if I recall, the Fairmont is in a great location too! Have fun!

I spent 3 mights at the Fairmont last August. We reserved a Signature room for 49 points a night for a total of 147 points. It turned out to be on the 21st floor of the Tower section of the hotel with a phenomenal view (if the fog cooperates) of the Golden gate Bridge, Alcatraz, the Coit Tower and waterfront. The Fairmont has a lobby that would put any hotel to shame. Two trolley car lines intersect right outside the hotel and will take you almost anywhere you want to go - waterfront or downtown. You are also located only a few blocks from Chinatown. I am sure whatever accomodation you choose will be excellent but if you can spend the extra points and still want to enjoy they city even when you are in your room you can't beat the Tower Section of the Hotel facing the Bay. Rooms are good but not exceptionally large unless you go above the DVC categories and pay for one of the suites that they have available at the hotel. The main draw is the hotel itself and its location.
Have a good trip!

I was advised that parking a car is expensive and a hassle in SF. You can catch a shuttle (we used Super Shuttle) at SFO and take it to the hotel for about $35 for two people. The FAirmont has a Hertz rental car desk in the lobby. Our trip went very well because we used public transportation in the city until we were ready to leave and took a bus tour to get over the Golden Gate to Muir Woods National Forest and Sausalito. We saved the places we wanted to drive to (Golden Gate Bridge and Ocean Beach) until the day of departure when we picked up our rental car. If cost is no object you can rent a car and use the hotel garage - but be prepared for an extra $30 a day charge and the aggravation of finding parking places. For a trip of a week or more I would get a rental car but for a 3 day stay in the City I wouldn't get the car until the day of departure.

:goodvibes
That hotel will leave you buzzing!
Although my wife and I only ate there (The Tonga Room),
the decor is beyond me! Wait until you see the foyer to
that hotel...incredible! The Fairmont is total class all the way!

p.s.
I'll be in S.F. on biz in May...and will most deffinitely eat
there! What a place...white gloves and all!
Have a blast!

We just made a reservation at the Fairmont SF for this August. The posts on this thread are encouraging me that we made a good choice!

Ok - we just got back from the Fairmont. WOW - believe everything you hear about how wonderful it is, especially the lobby. We had a smooth check in and check out. Our rooms were great and the beds sooooo comfy. The location is wonderful and within walking distance from many attractions.
I would highly advise a trip next door to the Top of the MArk for drinks and an awesome view. San Francisco is wonderful all on its own but staying at the Fairmont takes it to a new level. We're already planning another trip in the fall for my big 4 0! :thumbsup2
