Hi all-

My husband and I are visiting San Diego and the end of this week! We will be flying in early(flight lands at 9 am) on Friday Feb 8. We are planning on spending Friday and Saturday(and potentially some of Sunday) in the San Diego area before driving to Disneyland.
I was at the zoo when i was 5...and my husband has never been and is looking forward to the zoo more than Disneyland! We do not have any kids so it will just be the two of us. Looking at the park hours they are 10-5 both days. Should i get 2 day tickets and do the zoo both friday and saturday or should I get 1 day tickets and plan for something else the second day? I am just not sure on if the park hours(10-5) would allow us to only spend one day in the zoo.

We plan on going straight from the airport to the zoo since we wont be able to check into our hotel until the afternoon anyway and we have no problem going all day!

Any help is greatly appreciated since I am being indecisive!

Thanks!

I think you can probably do the zoo all in one day since it shouldn't be crowded. For the second day, try the San Diego Safari Park. Owned by the zoological society but very different than a zoo. You can probably get one pass that will include both. The Safari Park is about half an hour north of the zoo, I'm assuming you'll be renting a car since your driving to DL. Other things to try would be the rest of Balboa Park. The zoo is part of it but there are lots of other museums, the Old Globe Theater and usually street fairs/performers/etc to check out. Go to La Jolla to see the seals, tide pools, etc. The Midway Aircraft Carrier is open for tours, we spent a whole day doing this if that sort of thing interests you.

One day will be enough time to see the zoo. There are lots of other things to do in San Diego also.

Check out this site for different tours they have;

We have done the Ride the Seals tour and thats a cool one. They take you out into the bay and your about 10 - 15 feet away from sunbathing seals Here is the link for that one;

We have also done the Old Towne San Diego Tours. This one is pretty cool because it has different stops and you can get off and on at any of the stops, look around that area, and then get back on when the next bus comes around and continue the tour and can do that for any of the stops they have. Here is the link for that one;

If your into haunted houses make sure and go to the Whaley house in Old Towne San Diego, the trolly tour bus will take you to Old Towne, it is considered one of the best haunts in the USA. We have gotten some pretty strange things on pictures we have taken there. They also have great Mexican Restaurants in Old Towne. Here is the link for that one;

We especially like just going down around the dock area and strolling around there and looking at all the different boats. There are all kinds of tours on different boats you can get on like the Navys aircraft carrier Midway or the Star of India. The list of things to do in San Diego goes on and on. That first link I posted has all kinds of things in it.

Hi there. I wanted to make sure you knew that the zoo hours are 9:00 to 5:00. I'm not sure where you saw 10-5 but that is incorrect (I work at the zoo and do the opening ceremony so I would know lol!).

My recommendation would be to do one full day at the zoo, but do it on Saturday, since your flight lands on Friday after the zoo opens and you'll probably want to be at the zoo early to check out the new baby panda (on exhibit from 9-12 only).

Do you want to do any beach stuff? La Jolla? The rest of Balboa park? I certainly won't tell you not to come to the zoo two days in a row, but you can do it in one full day on Saturday if you want to save your money.

Thanks so much for all of the input and the links!

I feel much better about only taking one day to do the zoo and trying something else out in the area!

Now to decide what to do since there are so many options! :-)
