San Diego Port Embarkation Question

Hi all!

I have never gone out from the San Diego Port and had a few questions...

We have the first PAT at 11am and was wondering how early do people start lining up?
Is there a seating area once we pass through security?
Is the walk to the boat outside?
Will there be a lot of stairs to walk up? (just wondering because usually we enter on the 3rd deck into the main atrium)

TIA!

We have usually arrived around 10:30 for our 11:00 PAT and there is usually a fair amount of people waiting. I believe we are usually in the first
boarding group however, after Platinum and Concierge.

There is seating before you are allowed to enter security, as well as after you pass through security and check in.

There are a few stairs, but there is also an elevator available iirc. The walk to the boat is outside, but covered.

It has been quite organized the couple recent times we have sailed from SD.

Yes there is an elevator to get up to the gangway if needed. But beware the line builds quickly and it appeared to be a smaller elevator. Ive heard horror stories about San Diego being disorganized for both embarkation and debarkation. We have only sailed out of San Diego one time and everything ran very smooth. Hopefully it will hold true again for our May sailing.

Thank you! I am just worried about how long my mom would be able to stand in line. If the stairs are not too bad, she may be able to walk up, but will need small breaks in-between or at the top.

I have heard about the horror stories too and I am really worried about my mom having to wait in line with us since she cannot stand for a long period of time.

The longest standing wait we encountered was waiting for the initial security check. However, there were many chairs right outside the ropes. I wonder if she could sit there and you could motion her over as you approached the scanners?

Does she use a walker at all? If so, you could make sure she has one that has a seat she could use when tired.

I will definitely look into those chairs near the front.

She does not use a walker.
