San Diego Hotels: San Diego Marriott Hotel & Marina or Holiday Inn San Diego Bayside

I'm still on a hotel search. I think I've narrowed our choice down to these 2.
We can get the HI for about $50/night cheaper. I'm really more concerned with quality than price. So, is the Marriott that much nicer? I've read the reviews on Trip Advisor, & the reviews are about the same for both. People usually consider the value, when writing a review. Since these hotels are priced differently, it's hard to compare them based on individual reviews. I'm looking for opinions from people who have seen them both & can compare them based on quality alone. Which would you choose? TIA

I have stayed at both hotels and the Marriott is much nicer than the Holiday Inn. The Marriott has a terrific pool complex, several dining choices, better views, and has a better location (Seaport Village is a five minute walk). The Holiday Inn is nice, but it is not nearly as nice as the Marriott.

Thanks That's exactly the type of info. I was hoping for. I'll book the Marriott. That's one more thing I can check off of my list.

One more question.... Is a balcony room at the Marriott worth paying an extra $45/ night for? Thanks again

Not all rooms have balconies and the balconies overlooking the harbor are the most expensive. Personally, I enjoy having a balcony and prefer the city views. I am from San Diego, so a view of the city holds a lot of nostalgia for me. Keep in mind that the balconies are small.
