San Diego Help?

My sister and her friend are going to be in San Diego for two days over New Years Eve (they are doing a two week tour of that area). Can anyone suggest anywhere they could go for New Years Eve? They would maybe like a nice meal / dinner dance or if anyone else has any ideas that would be great.

Many of the hotels around downtown offer packages that include parties in the Gaslamp area of downtown. That's a really fun area to celebrate New Years. If they will be staying else where or with a friend a lot of the Gaslamp restaurants sell the tickets seperately. I really haven't heard of anything special going on YET. Maybe in another month or two. When it gets closer send me a PM and I'll send the section of the paper that gives info on the happenings.

There are a few places that have New Years parties at hotels and that way no driving is involved after the partying. I know the following places have had big parties in the past and they could check with em and see if there is something scheduled for this year.
US Grant Hotel (downtown SD - near Gaslamp area)
Handerly Hotel (Hotel Circle - Mission Valley area)
Hyatt Aventine (La Jolla/UTC area)

I personally have not attended any of these but know people who have and they have had a good time. Hope that helps!
