Hi everyone,

We are coming to stay at Disneyland for two weeks mid February. We want to spend one day at San Diego Zoo. We want to make the most of our day there and would like to be there from park open, however all the shuttle services we have found don't leave Anaheim until 9am. Driving is not an option for us and a town car with a driver is over what we are willing to pay ($600 round trip) Does anyone know of a shuttle service that gets us there earlier or possibly could recommend another way to get there? We were considering the Amtrak however the earliest train (assuming it's on time) still wouldn't get us to the zoo until 9:30-9:45am as it arrives at the station at 9am.

Thanks everyone!

I, too, did a search of shuttles and didn't find any that leave Anaheim earlier than 9AM.
Amtrak seems the earliest option with a train leaving at 8AM

According to the latest Surfliner schedule, you can catch a 6:52 train from Anaheim that arrives in downtown SD at 9am.

Uber XL estimates are around $200 one way from park to zoo.

Have you considered heading down the night before and spending one night in SD?

From the San Diego train station to the zoo is about 8-10 minutes by car. I would suggest taking a taxi/uber from the train station. It is possible to walk, but figure it adds 30-40 minutes to your travel time and you'll be doing plenty of walking at the zoo. Being at the zoo after opening should not be a deal breaker. It'll be a great day. One can argue that you'll never see everything to zoo has to offer (I go a few times a week when they have evening hours, sometimes staying for just 45 minutes, been doing this for years and always find something new) but on a full day you'll be able to see all the major attractions and go back to the ones you really liked while still managing to find a nice place to sit and take it call in (I suggest Fern Canyon). Be sure you time your return trip however. Surfliner is also a great ride up along the coast for much of the trip to Anaheim.

We did a trip last year and went from dl to sam diego. I like you looked into all of the options and we ended up renting a car from downtown disney and drove down ourselves. It ended up working out great for us. Sorry that driving isn't going to work for you. I feel your pain trying to get down the coast.

I suspect getting to the zoo right at opening is not so essential since they don't have the lines that the theme parks do. However, if you really need to get there early maybe you could take an Uber/limo there in the morning and then Amtrak at night?
