Without renting a car. Next month we'll visit San Diego ~ I hope to visit DLR while we're there for 1 day (Wed. 7/15) I need to figure out how to get up there and then back to San Diego (we fly out of SAN that Fri.) I'm ok with renting a car for this.

But.....

Just last night my mom booked a weekend cruise for all of us (my mom, grandma, my family, and my siblings) We leave from San Diego and return there as well ~ the dates are 12/4-12/7. I'd love to visit DLR the following week ~ 12/7-12/10. We'll fly into SAN for the cruise but I'd fly out of LGB if we visit DLR. So I need a way to get from San Diego to Anaheim ~ any ideas/suggestions?

Easy. Interstate 5 all the way. DLR is just off I-5. Harbor or Ball Rd exit if I am not mistaken...

Newbie here but a WDW vet. Would love to visit DL and other area attractions? Maybe next early June. How far is DL from San Diego Sea World, Legoland, and Universal Hollywood? It is easy enough for tourists new to the area?

Roughly 80-90 miles to SW, 50-60 to LegoLand and 30-40 to USH. But distance is almost irrelevant in SoCal. I was born and lived there for 28 years. It has taken me 4 hours to go 40 miles at non-rush hour times. If you stay away from rush times that helps but is no guarantee. I like to get places the night before so I know I am there. HTH. :)

I know it's easy (drove from Anaheim to Carlsbad 3 years ago) I'm trying to figure out ways to get there other than me driving. Taxi? Train? Bus? If I rent a car, I'd pick it up in San Diego and drop it off in Long Beach (probably $$$)

My bad. I responded to the title of your post and only skimmed the content.

There is a train station in downtown SD that runs up into OC. Never been on it although I lived there for many years. You can check trains.

A taxi both ways would probably cost more than just renting a car. You might get a flat rate taxi. Guess you could call and find out.

How about hitchhiking? ;)

Train!!!!!

Amtrak's Surfliner. Leave from the downtown San Diego station (don't be fooled by the other SD stops on amtrak.com...they are stops that you bus from before getting to the train), have a lovely and leisurely trip up. For much of it, it goes along the coast. There are commuters and, when I went, what seemed to be private school kids going to school.

The Anaheim stop is in the parking lot near Angels stadium (or in that parking lot?) and when you first get out of the train you'll think you're 100% lost, but follow the pathway and you'll get to civilization. There will be cabs, and the cab ride will run you about $13, depending on where exactly you're heading.

The only problem with that for a one day, no hotel, trip, is that the last trip back to SD leaves before the parks close. But if you get the very first train out of San Diego, you should have had a nice full day.

If you have AAA, book at least 2 weeks out and you can get a discount.

Tour bus transfer?

We have done this twice with VIP tours in Anaheim. They picked us (and luggage) up and took us to San Diego on the Zoo tour bus. We were fortunately able to be dropped close to our hotel after dropping the Zoo guests and we returned the same way... i think it cost about $40 return...

I think the DisneyLand Railroad picks up at the Amtrak Anaheim stop, doesn't it? ;)
