San Diego area house rental

I am researching a Disneyland/San Diego trip We would like to rent a house because we will be traveling with another family. I visited VBRO and there are many areas to choose from. Can anyone suggest some areas they feel are safe, close to the attractions (some driving is OK) and reasonable priced.

It depends on what you want to spend. I would suggest Hillcrest, North Park, South Park, Mission Bay, Balboa Park and Kensington areas as places to stay.

If you want half way to SD and DL; Carlsbad is a beauty of a city!

It takes us 50 minutes to get to DL and 25 minutes to get to downtown San Diego!

Solana Beach and Encinitas are also near Carlsbad - really all 3 of those locations are wonderful. There is a fabulous family-friendly beach in Encinitas called Moonlight Beach with a great playground, parking and a nice beach area. Further south I like Mission Bay and La Jolla.
