San Angel... yes or no???

I like the lunch menu better than the dinner. Humphrey

I agree. I've had both lunch and dinner there and the lunch menu seems superior. I sometimes wonder if the negative review are from those that had dinner there and the positive ones are from those that had lunch. Anyway, the setting with the water and volcano in the Mexican market is quite unique.

That is an interesting observation. Given the nature of Epcot's World Showcase restaurants, that seems to indicate buyers' remorse more than anything else. People are evidently pickier when they're paying $22.95 than when they're paying $18.50.

Yep!
Here's the address:

This is a really great website if you're interested in details. I printed menus for our dining plan restaurants in October, however there were a few variations/changes in what was on the actual menus when we arrived. I still found it very helpful.

Have a nice time! :)

I think the food is OK, but I'm not a great judge of Mexican food (it's just not my favorite food). We like the ambience a lot, we found it no darker than the Biergarten restaurant, and didn't have any problems with the lighting. It's a fun and interesting place for us, since we don't have anything like a restaurant with San Angel's ambience where we live.

One of the problems is that a lot of folks go into San Angel Inn expecting tex-mex food, such as what they'd get at most every "Mexican" restaurant on the East Coast of the United States. San Angel Inn doesn't really serve truly authentic Mexican food, such as what I remember having while working on business in Mexico, but it is far closer to that than the nachos and burritos that are what many folks believe is Mexican food.

I liked the atmosphere, the drinks, and the chips with salsa but the actual meal was not good :crazy2: I like Mexican food, both tex-mex and real mexican but the food at San Angel was not good at all. I've been there twice and I can't remember what I had the first time (enchilladas maybe) but the second time I had the salad and it just wasn't good. Both times we have eaten here we didn't feel so good afterwards

As a few have suggested, try SAI at lunch vice dinner, and go either before or after the main lunch rush. You will have more room and likely better service as it does get crowded since the tables are VERY close together. The atmosphere is undeniably nice, but in my opinion, the food is mediocre Thus, lunch might be a bit cheaper way to try SAI for the first time. As for the margaritas, the worst I've ever had was there--sweet, syrupy, obviously a mixture, no lime taste, and very little alcohol. Drank less than half of one on a hot, humid day when I was terribly thirsty. Still, unless you try it for yourself, you won't really know. . .paw:

We love San Angel Inn. It is dark, but it is also pretty. Plus you can mill around the shops after dinner! I think it's slightly overpriced, and thus is a good place to go if you're on the dining plan. We love their frozen margaritas--one goes a LONG way! I always get the same entree--shrimp with pasta in a spice sauce. Yum!

We go pretty much every trip for lunch. We like the atmosphere at lunch, the food is ok, as is the service. I always bring my fiesta margarita in from the kiosk outside and they always seem fine with that. I don't think I would go there expecting a 10, you might be setting yourself up for a disappointing evening. I think you should give it a try, jmho.

Love the atmosphere! DH and I have eaten there more times than we can count...twice on Christmas Eve. The food isn't hot and spicy as some may be expecting. I'd imagine that's because there are so many different cultures dining there and they need to appeal to the "masses". Not too many children can really tolerate hot spicy food as well as many adults. I understand a love for that type food is "cultivated". Oh well, I think they do the best they can to accommodate most tastes. And yes, a table by the water makes a great dining experience. And yes BICKER...it's dark! :rotfl: (But I l*like* that!)
