I have heard so many mixed reviews on this place. But it seems that for every person who loves it, there are 10 others who don't. On our last trip, after going on the boat ride, my husband and I agreed that on our next trip we would eat there. I have ADR's for next Friday (March 3rd)
That will be our first night of our trip. I need to hear some opinions. I have looked at the menu, and it is hard to tell. We are up for anything, but I don't want to spend a ton of money for average food. Help me decide, what did you think about it??? I don't want to be disappointed. :scratchin
TIA

I think some people equate "dark" with "romantic" -- we don't. It's very dark. Very dark. The food is okay, and pretty reasonably priced. There are far better places to have dinner at Epcot, but I wouldn't refuse an invitation to dinner at San Angel.

While we probably won't return for dinner, never say never. Keep your reservation. It's worth trying one time. You'll enjoy the atmosphere, and it seems to be hit or miss with each person's personal taste. I'm glad we tried it on our last trip, we had always wanted to.

When we ate there the food was okay. It was good but not really something I have wanted to have again. The atmosphere is very cool. Its very dark and you can see the Aztec ruins and the water from the boat ride.

Well, you will probably get a lot of different responses from this. There are a lot of negative reviews about San Angel. I lean more to agreeing with them than not. I do not remember the specific things I have ordered from there in the past. We have eaten there atleast 5 times and I have not had anything I liked yet. My husband and I both love this type of food but for some reason we just don't care for this restaurant. My sister enjoys eating there and that is the reason we have gone back so many times. I think she mostly enjoys the chips and salsa and the atmosphere though.

Even still, I do recommend you trying it. I know that may sound silly coming from someone who doesn't like the restaurant but it never hurts to try something for yourself. I do like the atmoshpere of the restaurant too and if it looks appealing to you just go for it. You will probably think about it until you do try it. The portions are very large so you may want to just split something or eat an appetizer, that way you want be wasting to much money if you end up not liking it.

I have to disagree. Trying Nine Dragons did hurt.

I would agree, though, that trying San Angel Inn won't hurt. Well, wait. Let me take that back. Did I mention that the place is DARK? It's very DARK. Very dark. So dark that I couldn't tell the difference between my enchilada and the chile relleno. I took a nice big bite of the chile relleno by mistake -- that hurt! Maybe they should provide mini-floodlights for your plate, or in some other way give the diner a chance to see the hot chiles before they inadvertently down too much of them in one bite.

There are better restaurants, IMO. We love Mexican food, but this is poor quality stuff. Not because it's not typical, but because it's not well prepared. However, the setting is very unique and if you haven't eaten there, then I would say to give it a try. Tastes are different and you may enjoy it. At the very least, you will most likely enjoy the experience. I'm sure we will eat there again someday since we really enjoy the setting. Ask for a waterside table. You'll have to wait, but it's worth it.

I've been to San Angel three times, most recently in December 05. I've always enjoyed my meal, and so has my DH (twice) and my mom(once). My only complaint is that the tables are so close together. Other than that, we really enjoy it. You should definitely try it at least once to may up your own mind. :)

With all the bad reviews and it's just OK food. Some of my most memorable evenings have been spent in this restaurant.

Don't miss it for the World! This was the first place my wife and I ate on arrival for our honeymoon 14 years ago, so it is a special place for me. We love it for lunch, especially on a real hot Florida day. Granted, it is dark and it takes a while for youe eyes to adjust, but I always found that the bowls full of margaritas help!

I am a fan of San Angel. I've been there four or five times and had very good experiences. The setting for the pavilion in Mexico is twilight so it is dark, but not too dark in my opinion. I can't remember ever having trouble reading the menu or seeing my food. However, because it is always dark, I reccommend you go there for lunch. It will feel like dinner inside and you are paying lunch prices if you are concerned about paying too much if you are unsure about the place.

We have always enjoyed our meals at San Angel. We like the setting, food, and drinks. I think it is all a matter of personal taste and everyone has differing opinions on food. We had read great things about Beirgarten and thought it was just ok.

We used the little light that I have on my car key on my key ring. :)

We really enjoyed it. I didn't think I'd like it, I don't like peppers/onions, but DH and I shared the Cozumel combo platter, it was really good. The dessert I had was chocolate mousse and it was very, very good!!! Even our kids liked it, they had the quesidellas I think, but they said they wanted to go again.

We'll be eating there again!

Here's a link for virtually all WDW menus:

We've eaten at San Angel Inn twice, and consider it not-to-be-missed for the atmosphere, and "pretty good" for the food ( we have not found ANYPLACE in the parks that has what we consider wonderful food, but we still love to eat at Disney restaurants!).

I had dinner there a few years ago so things may be different now. I loved the atmosphere and the service was fine. The food however was ok. Not bad but not great either. But I don't regret going there. The experience was nice.

:cheer2:

We ate there and had a table by the water, DH and I really enjoyed it. I liked the atmosphere, it is dark, but I didn't mind it. It is by all means not a quiet restaurant though, if that's what you are looking for.:thumbsup2

It's a MUST every time we go.....love the atmosphere. Wouldn't be a DIS trip without San Angel!
