San Angel or via Napoli?

Another vote for San Angel Inn. I love the theme and feel of the restaurant.
I have always ordered any Seafood dish at SAI and it has always been Very Good!
I don't think most people order Seafood, negative reviews are always for non-seafood dishes, something to think about.
Last time our pizza at Via was not cooked in the middle (soggy). Cute ovens though.

The San Angel Inn does not have good Mexican food, period. It has an interesting ambiance, but that can't make up for bad Mexican food.

La Hacienda de San Angel on the other hand has quite decent Mexican food.

If you can't get into La Hacienda OP, stick with Via Napoli.

Uh.... ever had pizza in Naples, Italy where pizza was 'invented'? That is exactly how Neapolitan pizza is supposed to be.

Via Napoli is the only certified Neapolitan pizzeria in the state of Florida.

We live where there are Families Businesses direct from Italy and Sicily so I eat the best pizza you can get, it is not same quality than what I can get in my neighborhood.
I don't care for Tex-Mex food but San Angels in so much better than that, it is more authentic.
La Hacienda de San Angel is run by the same owners as San Angels Inn.

Pizza wasn't created in Sicily, it was created in Naples. That you happen to like your local pizzeria better just means you don't understand how pizza is supposed to taste when it follows the original design to use your word, to create an "authentic" pizza.

Who said anything about Tex-Mex food? The San Angel Inn isn't authentic at all. I've been to the San Angel in Mexico City. If the Disney version were authentic they'd have Calf Brains with black butter, Roast Duck, Shrimp Rockefeller and Lobster Bisque, to name a few, and they wouldn't have quesadilla or fish tacos. But they dropped the authentic dishes and dumbed down others to appeal to a wider audience.

La Hacienda de San Angel is run by the same owners as San Angels Inn.

You mean The Walt Disney Company?

La Hacienda has a more innovative menu reflective of a more modern Mexican cuisine and it is better executed than San Angel.

I currently live 15 miles north of the US-Mexico border and can see the city lights of Tijuana at night. I travel extensively to Mexico City, Monterrey, Puerto Vallarta, Veracruz and Oaxaca and know what Mexican food tastes like and that isn't what is coming out of SAI's kitchens.

For me, food wins over ambiance any day. Given a choice, i'd pick Via Napoil each and every single time. Without a doubt! Food is incredible. I go every single trip. :)

Sorry to hear that you live near Tijuana, I can understand now why you are so grouchy and know everything, if I lived close to there I would be that way also.[/QUOTE]

Thanks for the sympathy. Life on Coronado Island is pretty rough, but we manage to bear the strain.

I agree La Hacienda is far better.
But to answer your question it is owned by San Angel Inn, LLC (and managed by another comapny) not the Walt Disney Company unless that has changed in the last few years.
In talking to the staff at the tequila bar I'm pretty sure they said the owners were Mexican, I'm pretty sure one of them was the owners nephew

There is some info here - although it's not 100% clear on ownership - but at least the name/concept is owned by someone other than Disney http://www.palmasjobs.com/about-2/

I also recall a few years back the food was far worse and I believe they were "encouraged" to fix it

Yes Coronado is great..... wonder where Disney got the idea for the Grand Floridian... hmmm

Couldn't agree more on San Angel Inn. Anyone who knows good Mexican food knows the SAI doesn't have it.

I'd go to Via Napoli.

Alright people, Really relax a little... No need to be Nasty on here, about what people think is authentic or isn't...What people like & dislike.

No one is Saying it is the Best meal ever eaten (SAI ) but it definitely is good Mexican, with very good service, & an awesome ambience...Way different than many TS in WDW.
