San Angel Inn

I am curious to hear about any recent experiences at San Angel Inn. There are some really dismal reviews from the past but I was wondering if things have improved. My adult daughter has celiacs's and it seems they have some good options. Any current info would appreciated!

We always eat our first lunch here. We absolutely love it. I know people will complain that the tables are too close, but it doesn't bother us. There has never been anybody sitting by us anyway. Last year we booked a second lunch later in our trip. Looking forward to being there in August!!

We love San Angel. We have eaten there numerous times since 2005 and have never been disappointed. I can understand some of the negative reviews: The service is efficient and friendly but not overly enthusiastic. The food is average to good American-Mexican.
BUT, the atmosphere is uniquely WDW to us. Sitting in the twilight overlooking the boat ride is magical. The price is a little better than most WDW TS. You can share apps and entrees to experiment with some new flavors.

I think a reason for some of the bad reviews is in what folks expect. The food is not your usual Americanized Tex/Mex, but rather more authentic Mexican cuisine. If you go expecting burritos etc, you will be disappointed.

I read in researching La Hacienda that when La Hacienda opened the group who is running that took over San Angel and the food has been much improved.

Also when looking for reviews I came across this website reviewing La Hacienda from the perspective of someone who is gluten free - I'm sure many of the tips apply to San Angel as well

We ate at San Angel Inn this January and liked it. My son is gluten free and had no problem finding an entree he liked. The chips and salsa that we started the meal with were gluten free, too. We'll be going back on our trip this weekend.

We loved it in March and my daughter requested to go back on her birthday in October. Of course like every restaurant opinions will vary. We really enjoyed the meal and atmosphere.

I do think this drives a lot of it. But I also think they've improved in recent years.

We went last year (extended family party), and lunch there was one of the best meals of our trip. My brother and SiL came along for lunch because they wanted to stay with our group...but afterward admitted they'd eaten there in the past and had 'lousy' meals. They LOVED it last year.

It's more authentic Mexican than American Tex Mex, but so long as you understand that, you can make an informed decision. But we loved it!

This is my 9yr old daughters single eatery request every trip down. I too enjoy the food there (really like the enchiladas). The only tough thing for me when eating there is the lighting is very low. My old eyes can sometimes have a bit of trouble reading the menu or the receipt, lol. Kind of my fault really as I have needed reading glasses for a couple years now but always seem to forget to bring them to the parks with me for just such things. Ahhh the joys of aging. lol

San Angels Inn is our Favorite Restaurant, we've eaten there for our last 3 trips and food has always been very good. My Family requested to eat here again this upcoming trip. I always order whatever Seafood dish they offer which is not the typical food people think about eating when going to a Mexican Restaurant. The seafood has never disappointed me.

We have our first ADR for San Angel for August. I have to admit, I'm kind of afraid we'll not enjoy it because it may to too authentic! Any recommendations on a meal for a family who enjoys Taco Bell and tortilla chips with salsa from a jar? Lol I was thinking a chicken dish or quesadilla might be nice but not sure if any of their dishes qualify for our less-than-world-travelled-pallets. Also, my 16 yo son is a vegetarian. Anything? (Seafood would only be an option for DH.)

They do offer a Vegetarian Menu--you have to ask for it though. It's no Taco Bell that's for sure, but I wouldn't let that scare you, be adventurous. I don't think that it's that adventurous, just real food that taste good.

Since becoming a vegetarian, my son is probably the most adventurous! (Minus the tofu )

I've made a reservation here a couple times only to cancel; really want to try it but the negative reviews end up swaying me a bit too much However I made another one for August that I intend to keep, and these positive reviews are making me excited to try it!

Speaking of Margaritas do you happen to know if you can get the Avocado Margarita there? I didn't see it on their menu.........
