DW has made her first dining request for Disney. She would like to eat at San Angel Inn, on the recommendation of her boss. How has it been lately? I haven't been in a number of years and back then it was kinda hit or miss....some days were good, some days were not.

If you liked it, any favs from the menu?

I am following this thread as well...both my kids and my hubby are Mexican fans (they love spicy type foods) me on the other hand I am more of a bland type eater...they all have been begging me to pick a Mexican place on our next trip bc they are all obsessed...me not so much lol, but the theme here is pretty cool which is why I am planning on make an ADR for it, but we will also go here on a day where I am planning to "eat around the world" lol, that way if I am not a fan of the menu I won't be starving until dinner, LOL

We ate there Monday after Easter and really enjoyed it. In fact my daughter requested a return visit there this fall for her birthday. It will be our only TS meal that return trip. She had a chicken enchilada dish that she loved and I had a chicken dish that was yummy. We both enjoyed the chips and salsa. We didn't order dessert. We would have loved a table by the water but noticed almost all but one or two were 4 tops and we were a party of 2. My dtr was thrilled they substituted rice for beans too.

We love it there and go every trip. Be aware though that nothing on the menu is spicy.

WE ate there in December and it was one of the trip favorites. I had the Carne Asada, the Huileqotche (SP) quesadillas, and cheesecake for dessert.

Delicious!

Good for me! Not so good for hubby and kids...oh well, lol, I am doing what they say and booking a mexican place, LOL...they never actually said it had to be a "spicy mexican place". :P:D:P:D:P

Just tagging along. We had a res at SAI, and flipped it to Rose and Crown due to many comments and reviews on SAI not being very good. I know all places will have some bad reviews, and I've never been to any of the places in WDW, but it seems SAI gets more bad reviews than many Epcot locations. Which is a shame since we like Mexican food (Americanized version at least) and of course a good margarita.

It used to be one of our favorites, but they got rid of the Traditional Mexican Dinner when we went in November. We are skipping it this fall.

I don't know if things have changed since we were there in 2014 or the chef was just feeling sadistic the night we were there, but DM and I couldn't eat our meals or drink our drinks they were so spicy. I had the mole chicken and DM the steak, and we both had the passion fruit margaritas. I love spicy food- always order the hottest wings, extra hot sauce at chipotle, etc. but this meal literally made me ill:crazy2:

Very good in December... Avocado margarita, chef combination plate ( chile Relleno, short ribs, chicken enchilada) was great!

Ate there last October and enjoyed it. Not the best Mexican ever but good. Nothin spicy. Terrible salsa.

Good food, not spicy as others have said. Great view of Illuminations if you're there when they shoot off.

I have eaten there twice and really enjoyed it both times. I agree, nothing spicy. Even when the server told me it was "kinda spicy" it was not. I cannot remember what I ordered, but whatever it was, it was good.

The other Mexican restaurant has a view of illuminations. San Angel Inn is inside the pyramid beside the boat ride.

Oops! Sorry about that! I misread the name and of course was referring to the La Hacienda de San Angel on the World Showcase Lagoon.

We enjoy it! The spacing between tables is incredibly narrow, though.

I'd say it's solidly good. Is there better to be had at disney, sure? Is there better Mexican to have elsewhere, of course? But San Angel Inn has an amazing atmosphere, quality food, and best yet the most amazing avocado margarita anyone ever done had

We had heard all the negative reports about San Angel Inn, but decided to try it. The restaurant is so beautiful and romantic--though the tables are very close. We really enjoyed our supper there--the tostadas were so fresh and yummy, and the margaritas were very good. I think people are expecting a tex-mex type of place and this is just not it. I think this more towards true Mexican food. I say try it for yourself and decide.

For five years I read the many negative reviews of SAI here on the DIS and for five years I avoided it. Then finally I decided why not? and made an ADR for the place. What was the result? I have been back there the past two years and am glad I finally decided to try it out. I actually like that it is nothing like the dozens of Tex/Mex restaurants that are all over the place where I live. My only complaints are the service has been OK both times and the tables are really pretty close. But neither of these is a deal breaker for me.
