San Angel Inn

Thanks for this. ... I may change my Rose and Crown ressie to San Angel if I can get it :-)

I thought San Angel Inn was undergoing a refurbishment starting May 10? Is that not occurring anymore? If so, I might try to change an ADR for July to San Angel Inn.

These are they types of things that drive me crazy about Disney. Pretty much everyone has known SAI has been sub par for years now both in food quality and service (the last two times I was there, were bad). The scenery is great and it could easily be one of the better spots in all of WDW. How hard is it to get up to the standards of a typical hole in the wall mexican joint that are all around the country? We have a couple within 10 minutes of us here in the DC area that put SAI to shame.

I can only speak of my experiences. I live in Tex-Mex central (Houston), my familiy is concentrated in Mexico City, my employees and work are split between California and Jalisco, and I generallly vacation in Baja California. That I hate Cal-Mex cuisine should not be a surprise.

Just got back from our trip yesterday and we ate there on Saturday. It was a last minute ADR shift as my family could not be woken up for our 8am Tusker House reservation on my birthday. Thanks a lot guys. So we had an extra TS credit that needed to be used and I got this for lunch a few days later. The atmosphere was neat which is why I booked it as my son kept pointing that he wanted to eat there (he's 2) when we went by it to get on the boat ride earlier on our trip.

My parents were with is and they are both originally from Mexico. Having grown up with Mexican food, we all know what good authentic Mexican food is. This was not it. Chips and salsa were "blah" My husband got the Cochinita Pibil as it is a typical Yucatecan dish which is where my dad is from and my mom makes the best cochinita. This tasted like our BBQ pulled pork sandwich that we got in Norway earlier in the week (which I'm sure was not authentic to Norway either). This was no where near what Cochinita Pibil should taste like. My mom got the puntas de res and she said it was the worst meal of the trip. My dad got sick from his meal: chilaquiles. I got the shrimp enchiladas and they were edible but not delicious. The kids loved their quesadillas though :p I had the capirotada (bread pudding) for dessert and I enjoyed that. My Margarita on the rocks was good too. Sugary sweet, but unless I'm making my own, they always are.

The atmosphere was nice and we got seated right next to the water so the kids enjoyed watching the boats go by and waving to people.

I would rank it similar to the Sci-Fi Dine-In. Go for the atmosphere, but don't expect much of the food. Hopefully you won't be unlucky like my dad and get ill for 2 days. :scared1:

We love San Angel Inn -- it's always one of our "must do" ADRs. We love the atmosphere, we love the margaritas, and the food has always been good. Yeah, the chips/salsa are generic, but I'm not going to a TS restaurant to stuff myself with free chips/salsa. The menu seems to change somewhat frequently. They used to have a cheese/sausage dip appetizer that was one of my favorites, but I don't see it on the menu now.

Did I mention the margaritas?

We have not been in a while but are planning on going next week with my sister and her boyfriend. I like the food OK but we eat light anyway. The atmosphere is nice but the tables are too close together. If we have service like some of you have had I will get up and walk out:)

The food is bad - save the credit for something decent to eat and get your margarita fix at the stand outside.

Grilled beef tenderloin over black beans and melted cheese, ranchero sauce, poblano pepper strips and fried plantain

This is what we ordered last week when we were there. The beef tenderloin was wonderful!!! So tender and much better that the NY strip we got at LeCellier later that week. Chips were generic but the salsa was fresh, definetly not the jar type. Service was good atomsphere was great but it was dark, lol. Tables were close together but have found that to be the case in most of WDW restaurants.

I love the San Angel Inn! I'll admit right off that ambiance means as much to me as the food quality, so long as the food isn't terrible. It's not the best mexican food I've ever had, but the atmosphere more than makes up for it. I also love the market area for browsing in while you wait for your food.

San Angel meets NONE of your requirements. Except perhaps for those few tables in the back next to the boats, it's a crowded and noisy restaurant. Tables are impossibly close together. Service is SLOW. And the food just "fair".

We ate at San Angel Inn in March and enjoyed our meals and had great service. We have dined at SAI many times in the past and this was the only time we really enjoyed it. I agree with Uncleromulus the tables are so close together you might as well be dining with the party next to you.
