Hi again!

I don't see too much discussion about San Angel Inn.

I understand it's the east coast version of our Disneyland's beloved Blue Bayou restaurant, kinda dark with boats going by....

I'm not interested in: if the food is particularly "authentic" or not, I get all the "authentic" Mexican food I can handle here on the West Coast.

It just has to be good, the ambiance good and the service good.

Does San Angel Inn meet all three of these "requirements" LOL

Any dish on the menu that is outstanding?

Anything to stay away from?

Thanks in advance for any opinions or tips!

I am hoping for an answer as well. I scheduled an ADR for the atmosphere, but good food would be nice, too.

Allears has a menu with more authentic foods I guess you would say. But, I saw another or perhaps read a review that suggested they also have typical Mexican: nachos, tacos, etc. Which is it?

This is the one place DH and I eat every time we go to Disney. I think they have updated the menu since our last trip, but we have never had a bad meal there. The ambiance is great - you sit by the river and watch the boats go by. The musicians they have are amazing though I'm not sure how often they play. It is a great place to sit, relax and enjoy a good meal. The service is great and you don't feel rushed out the door. :thumbsup2

We have eaten there a few times. The atmostphere is very nice but the food is so-so. We have a lot of Mexican Restaurants where we live and they all top San Angel hands down which is why we may be a little bias.

The Chips and salsa are simply Tostitos chips and Salsa. They aren't homemade. I can't say the food is bad but with what we compare it to, it's nothing that great. We probably won't eat there again simply because we can get much better here at 3 times less the cost.

I personally don't care for it. When I was a child, we went there on every trip and I loved it. But they have changed things drastically over the last 10-15 years. The last time we were there, I was disappointed in the food and the service. The drinks were premixed and the iced tea was Nestea. The atmosphere was nice, especially if you can get a waterfront table, but if you are looking for a good meal, I would skip it and do one of the better restaurants at Epcot. There are so many great restaurants to choose from in and around the Epcot area.

We eat here every time we visit WDW. It is one of our favorites. The atmosphere is great. Our kids always enjoy the ride, nothing exciting, but it is fun. While they wait for the food to come they go and create a mask in the mercado. The volcano is fun to watch and no matter where you're seated, the ambiance is great. It is dark though, my father was holding his menu up to the candle to read it!

Ignoring the food quality (which is terrible, esp for those of us used to good Mexican food) and the service is very slow. The tables are very close together. I do not think it's anywhere near as nice of an atmosphere as the Blue Bayou at DLR or DLRP.

We visited Disneyland last June and ate at the Blue Bayou. We went to WDW in October and at the San Angel Inn. The two are very similar except the San Angel has a shopping area that is very close to some of the tables. We had a water side table at the BB but near the shop at SAI. I prefer the water side. The portions were quite large and the food was good.

We're eating there in two weeks now that they're tajking reservations again - canceled Cape May to go to SAI.

Interesting thread because my DH and I were just talking about how we would like to try that on our next trip (not until next Sept). We don't have any good Mexican restaurants around us (unless you call Taco Bell a Mexican Restaurant :lmao:). We like the atmosphere of the Mexican Pavillion and always wondered what the restaurant was like.

I would for sure say yes for what you are looking for! The atmosphere alone is worth going, especially if you can get a table by the water;) We also think the food was pretty good.

Atmosphere is fantastic!!!!!!!! The soup is my favorite thing on the menu you are presented with a bowl that has cubed avocado, shredded cheese and tortilla strips. The server pours hot broth over the 3 and it turns into a little bit of heaven, I love it!!!!!! The food is great, it is not at all like a taco bell it is authentic and delicious. I had the beef with a mole and my husband the pollo with a cream sauce. Flan for dessert. The service was perfect. I had a virgin margarita, boring I know, it was great he had an ice cold cervesa (sp?). Make sure to ask for a table by the water and catch the three Amigos before you dine.

I have eaten there on a few trips and have never been impressed by the food or service. Not one of our favorites.

We loved the atmosphere. We felt like we were a million miles away from the hustle and bustle of the theme park outside. We were transported to a quiet cafe beside a winding river. One of our boys fell asleep and the other ate and ate and ate. It was a wonderful lunch break.

This is a good question for cinco de mayo :)

I have heard the food is authentic and not Tex Mex which people are used to. I would probably eat there if I had the dining plan- just for the atmosphere.

The food is good enough - not great - but the atmosphere is wonderful. Not Tex-Mex if that is your thing.

You can buy the Tostido chips and jar salsa right outside the restaurant (or in your local grocery store):rotfl:. Definitely not authentic.:rotfl: I live in Texas where we have tons of Mexican restaurants on every corner: the chain Mexican restaurants, Tex Mex restaurants, and authentic mom and pop places owned by local immigrants. They do each taste different and we eat at all three types of restaurants frequently. San Angel Inn is not even close to any of them. The last time we ate there our food came out cold, not warm, but cold. Service is extremely slow and tables are so close you can hear every conversation around you. The scene is very pretty and peaceful though.

My husband and I ate here in 2002 and while we LOVED the atmosphere and the location, the food was okay. We would probably eat here again if our schedule allowed needed to pick a place spur of the moment for a meal but wouldn't JUMP to get an ADR for it.
