Ive just been reading the menus trying to plan a nice meal for Hubs and I, and I was just wondering what everyone thinks of this restaurant?

I sounds like a lovely romantic setting with yummy tasty food, am I being mislead?

All views are welcome.

Thanks You in advance of your help

We like San Angel. The food is usually pretty good and the setting can be romantic though the tables are a bit close. Right now, El Rio Del Tiempo is undergoing refurbishment, so I understand that the backdrop isnt being seen by restaurant guests. This is a big part of the draw in atmosphere.

This is a restaurant we have always wanted to try, but there just isn't enough TS's to hit them all....

I have to admit - although we've never been there, the atmosphere is very appealing! I, personally, wouldn't eat there unless i can have the whole experience!!

When are you going? Will the refurbishment be completed in time for your trip?

Something else to consider - the menu MAY change after it opens again... just a thought.

I suppose it could be that sort of romantic setting if it weren't crowded, if you had a table near the river of Time, and if the tables weren't right on top of each other.
And if ,at pre-Illuminations time, the place wasn't full of kids.

San Angel Inn is probably my favorite of all the Epcot restaurants. It has a wonderful atmosphere. As the previous posters have said, the tables are very close together, but for the most part I don't think it is an overly loud restaurant (for example, thought Alfredo's seemed really loud and the table spacing was similar to San Angel).

San Angel Inn also has excellent drinks - margarita's, spicy bloody mary...etc.

I think the food is excellent by Disney standards (meaning, with the exception of places like Jiko and Flying Fish, I find most restaurants to be very good, but probably not GREAT).

We ate at San Angel Inn for the first time in September. . .and it will probably be the last time, as well. The atmosphere and service were great, but the food was awful. It was barely warm and just simply tasted bad. The tables are very close together, but that didn't bother us much. Good luck

When we went there, the atmosphere was the only thing going for it.

The service was just OK if you have a fairly generous nature. The food was simply not good.

In general, I have found that Mexican food is pretty hard to mess up. You can get good Mexican pretty much anywhere you go. The San Angel Inn has proven to be the exception to that rule.

We liked the food, loved the atmosphere.

I was curious how they are handling dinner there with the Rio Del Tiempo refurbishment. I wouldn't eat there if atmosphere is compromised.

The atmosphere is nice and the food isn't bad, it's just that if you've eaten at a good Mexican restaurant, you've eaten at San Angel Inn. That being said though the interior is really cool.

Loved what I had there but couldn't see it.

People seem to love it or hate it. I am on the side of loving it. I think the food is really good, and though the tables ARE crowded together, it is intimate. It is very dark, but I enjoy that; I think it adds to the atmosphere. When we were there most recently, we were seated directly in front of the volcano. It was soooooo nice. We definitely will go back.

In my opinion, the setting is VERY romantic, and the food is good but not spectacular. I do not eat meat, however, so I cannot vouch for the regular menu items...only the vegetarian fare. FYI, you have to ask for the special veggie menu (in case anyone reading this needs to).

I agree with the poster that said the food was barely warm. Don't know why they can't serve it hot, EVER! Seriously, we've eaten there many times, cause it's a fun place, and it's consistently luke warm. I've even asked the server to please make sure the food is hot and I tell them of our previous experiences. Just goes in one ear and out the other. So.....long story short, we keep going back anyway for the festive atmosphere and great margaritas.

We've been there about 3 times with the last time being about 5 years ago. The first time we were there we loved it. Next 2 times we were not as happy as we noticed that it seemed to be getting darker and really crammed. Service is slow and really hard to get hold of your waiter. The best food did seem to be what was on special for that night other it was just okay. I miss these restaurants being such a experience when you travel so far and plan so far in advance. I know restaurants will have a off night but we seem to be experiencing more of it. Maybe it is just us except we still have our favorite restaurants that keep on delivering year after year.

We ate there in November and loved it. The food was great and my kids loved waving to the boats that went by.:thumbsup2

I love this place. Its one of my favorites. I wrote the review of it on mouseextra.com which details it more than I would here.

I ate there in August. Everyone in our party enjoyed it. The food was a bit different than the Mexican we're used to (we're from MI, I don't think we have any spectacular Mexican food here lol), but it was VERY good. I wish I was there now.

As far as the atmosphere, I remember it being very dark and pretty. I don't remember the noise level being particularly quiet or loud. It was a bit crowded, but it didn't bother us.

My favorite TS at Disney. Great atmosphere and I really like the food. It is not Tex-Mex but more authentic Mexican.

The food isn't bad, but the service is horrible.... consistantly. Expect to wait for everything. It's dark and cramped. Might not be bad if you are a party of 2 seated at a table for four near the river of time, but it's all blocked off by nasty refurbishment walls.
