San Angel Inn is 50% atmosphere and 50% dining in our experience. My DS 16 always has this as a must during our vacation. The atmosphere makes all the difference here especially during the heat of a July trip! The food is average Mexican nothing special but nothing bad either. We ate at San Angel Inn Wednesday night. We had a 7 pm ADR and were seated about 7:20. I love the atmosphere but I hate how tightly-packed the tables are. We were very pleased to be seated at the water's edge overlooking the volcano. DGD age 2 was amazed; she kept asking "Are we outside?" which didn't make sense to her as she knew we were inside! I had the Chicken Mole Poblano, which was sooo good. The chicken and the vegetables were very tender and seasoned perfectly. SIL had the Carne Asada and loved it. It was tender and not overdone, and he liked the seasonings. He was not sure what the side dish was but he enjoyed that as well. DD does not like highly spiced food ( ) and had a quesadilla which she enjoyed. I had the fiesta margarita and DSIL had a cerveza and both were very good. The salsa they brought as an appetizer was good but the chips were just packaged Tostitos. Something more authentic (and warm) would have been better. Overall we enjoyed it and will go back.

Pros:
Nice ambience. Not too crowded if you go for lunch right before or right after the busiest part of the lunch hour.

Cons:
Average to mediocre food. Tables crowded extremely close together even when the place isn't real busy. Margaritas are very weak and taste like the cheap mixed stuff you can buy at a grocery store.

Overall:
Service is decent but nothing to brag about. Try it but don't expect too much.

Give it a shot and try it out. I tried it on my last trip, solo too, and really enjoyed it.

We have eaten here several times, and in my opinion it has gotten better each time. At christmas we used this for CandleLight processional. It is crowded (tables a little closer together than some) and the staff seems to be continually hopping, but sevice was good (thanks Anna!) and the Cheveche appetizer was my favorite appetizer of the whole trip. The restaurant is beautiful, and when the boys were young, we spent a lot of time in the indoor open air market!

Let me first say that we eat Mexican food 2-3xs a week. We Love mexican food.
Now, we thought San Angel Inn was really good. The drinks were strong!!! Great way to start off the meal. The different Salsa's were good. The waiter brought out two of them for us. One was traditional, and the other a smoky pepper kind of one.....our meal came with a steak that was cooked "Well" as we ordered but not burned. Very tender and Juicy, and had a great flavor. Not every resturant can do this!! I don't know what seasonings were on it but very good. The other food was excellent as well.

The atmosphere is original. No other place like it in the showcase, so It has that, and is a must try at least once just to say you ate there. Sitting by the river watching the boats is neat.

The only complaint I have is the tables are close together, but no big deal. Every time I walk to the table or to the restroom, I hope I don't knock something off someones table, if you know what I mean. :teeth

We go to San Angel Inn once every trip as a traditional first meal on our first night at WDW.

Nine years ago if you had asked me this question I would have said average but overpriced mexican food, great atmosphere.

Every time since then the food has improved a lot. I would say it is above average food, prices are about the same (which is good), and there is something about the atmosphere that we all enjoy. We always make it a tradition to ride the Rio del Tiempo (boat ride) after or before our meal depending on the wait.

So, yes I would recommend it and the food is on par with many of the other good TS restaurants in Epcot (but not in the best category as Le Cellier, etc.).

I haven't eaten there in a while, but we had two very bad, overpriced meals there. The atmosphere is nice, though a little dark. I would recommend going on the boat ride, then eating at a different restaurant. Even the counter service in Mexico is better. There are so many good restaurants in World Showcase, but San Angel is not one of them.

We've eaten there before and found it just o.k. If you have kids I would not reccommend this place to dine. A lot of the food will go uneaten. For the older kids and adults, the food was average. We LOVED the atmosphere of the place though. It was fabulous! Try to get a 7:30 or 7:45 reservation so that you can walk out and see Illuminations. This is what we did and we got a great spot 15 minutes before it began. If you have never eaten here, give it a shot but I don't think it is the best place to go in Epcot.

We went there this past March for lunch, and loved it! I was a bit worried about going since I'd read so many negative reviews, but we went anyway and I was very glad we did. We had an ADR for 11:30, and got a table right next to the water - perfect. Our service was fine, and we all enjoyed our meals. I had a frozen margarita that was excellent (and very large) and the Plato Mexicano for lunch. It was all quite good (except I can't speak for the beans, I ordered mine without). We will most certainly be heading back there in January - I'm already looking forward to it!

We went to San Angel Inn in Dec. 2004. We did it as part of the Candlelight Proc. We had a corner table. The atmosphere is great and we enjoyed the meal. DH wants to do this again in August.

San Angel Inn
Lots of ambience with good food which should never be mistaken for great food. We try to vist the SAI every vacation to Disney and I actually found myself in the Inn during my recent business trip too. Tables are close together but I perceive many WDW guest never adventure inside the Mexican ruin to even experience the Mayan volcano evening setting.

I frankly love the San Angel Inn. Its one of my favorites. I think the food is well above average and the atmosphere is top notch. Try it out.
