San Angel Inn...Opinions Please

We often eat here and at the Cantina because we have vegan and vegetarian diners in our family and it is a good place to get food they can eat. On our last trip (November) we were there at lunch, and it was not at all crowded and the service was top-notch. I do like the setting and atmosphere - it is a nice break from the park.

However, the food is not at all spicy and, as another poster said, not really seasoned very much. It's just bland.

I really like it, it's one of my favorite restaurants in WDW. As others have said, the food is Mexican, not Tex-Mex, so if you are used to or expecting Tex-Mex you may not like it. The ambience is wonderful. I say give it a try.

This place used to be my favorite place to eat. When I was younger, we went to EPCOT every year, and we always went to SAI. Went there on my HM, too. But, somewhere between HM and the last time I went, everything went down hill. Service, which had always been done with a smile and even a little flirtation, had become pretty much non-existant. They have shoved too many tables into the area and now you can't hear anyone else and you bump into other guests if you have ot move at all. The servers end up trying to get you to pass down plates that are very hot, too.
The food, which I used to be very fond of, was terrible. Dry, tasteless. My kids love mexican food (we go to Don Pablos and El Toritos on a regular basis) so I thought this would be a good option from my experience in the past. There weren't many options for the kids, and almost none were actually mexican. My DH, who will eat just about anything, didn't finish his meal and said we were never going back. A big disappointment all the way around.

SAI "used" to be my wife and I's favorite place when we first got married and we went all of the time. Finally we have decided to stop going there.

Why? Well we used to love it because of the ambiance. The atmosphere is incredible!

However, the food is BY NO MEANS authentic mexican food. In fact, if you leave the property, you can hit a "hole in the wall" mexican place and get twice as much food, twice as good of food, for 1/2 the price.

The tables in there are WAY too close. Be prepared. You will not have ANY privacy. The table next to you is so close that you will have to carefully walk between them to not bump the other tables.

In fact when you walk through TO your table, the place is so jumbled, you can hardly walk through it.

The food is prepared very quickly (as you can tell when you get it).

We have just decided to save our money and eat at better places.

Atmosphere though is great.........but just not private, so be prepared.

San Angel Inn is always on our "must do" list each trip. We've been there for dinner for the last five years, and it's always excellent. To clear up some of the description of the food: it's not Tex-Mex, or American Southwestern, or California Mexican, it's Mexico City based. So, the fare might not be what you've come to expect in a typical Mexican/American restaurant. Anyway, my wife and I would never consider missing it. The Margaritas Grandes are also excellent, and we love the atmosphere and service. The Mole Poblano dish has long been my favorite.
Hope you enjoy it.

I think some things you have to understand when eating a Disney restaraunt are:

1) People that are on their big vacation for the year just love disney and are so happy to be there that there is ALOT of bias involved.

2) VERY few Disney restaraunts are "truly" worth the money in terms of food quality when compared with same priced restaraunts outside of the parks. Most comparisons must be made in terms of comparing to other Disney restaraunts. It's definately the theory of relativity.

As someone who gets to go ALOT to the parks, I've come to really see the value or lack thereof with some restaraunts. You are not paying for the "food" per se but just the fact that you are eating in the parks and the atmosphere. By atmosphere however, we dont mean privacy.......this is among the most jammed restaraunts on the property.

Also, about those margarittas, that's another thing........I love my 'ritas and the one's at SAI, while good, are the "cheapo" margarittas, as they are not freshly mixed. They are pre-mixed, even with alcohol and are simply served out of a slushy machine. For the price to pay for them, I just feel it's a rip-off.

To each his own though. I like the ambiance, but I just feel Im being robbed from at this place specifically in the price to value ratio.
