I have ADR for the San Angel Inn in Mexico for Dec 2008. This is part of the Candlelight Processional dining package. I have seen bad reviews for the restaurant and am wondering if I should try and change my ADR. Any ideas on what to do?

We were not fond of it and skipped it for a long time. Ate there recently since it's all we could get into and were pleasantly surprised...food was much improved.

It is not one of our favorites, there are much better restaurants in the world showcase. That being said I think you shoud go and decide for yourselves. There are lots of people who really enjoy it.

we're eating there too, for dinner. It was the only place that would fit our schedule. I wish there were pics of the menu items. We'll probably go w/ the combo plate and the nachos. I'm not too sure about this place either, given the reviews. The bread pudding for dessert sounds great though!

On our first trip we wanted to eat there, but that was before we knew we HAD to have ADR's so we could'nt eat there. They had a spot inside though where they said it was quick service, but the same menu. Confusing. We had the nachos and shared them, they were ok. I was expecting a huge pile of nachos w/ toppings but instead it was a few chips covered in toppings.

The atmosphere wont let us down though. HOpe we get a good seat.
Wish the Mariachi players performed the day we were going.

So yes, i'm having doubts too but we'll try it anyway.

I didnt LOVE it, but I liked it a lot. After a mango margarita, it got to the LOVE category!!

If you like mexican, you will like it. They have very simple traditional (taco) to very authentic (Tilapia fish with sauteed poblano pepper strips and spicy avocado sauce!) and some American disguised as Mexican...Polo a las Rajas (basically chicken breast with onions and peppers!!)

The one think I really dont care for is the lighting..or lack of. I understand you are suppose to be eating "outdoors under the moonlight", but I think it turned out more like "outdoors with flashlights that all had weak batteries". I could barely see my food (I could see the plate, but couldnt make out what was a bean and what was a diced tomato). I just prayed my order didnt get mixed with someone who ordered fish!!!

dh and i really enjoyed it, the food was very good and the atmosphere is great...we had the nacho's as an appetizer and loved them...i'd also highly recommend the frozen strawberry margarita!:thumbsup2

It's not the best Mexican food I've ever had and I would love to have authentic chips and homemade salsa instead of bagged an jarred, but it's still pretty good and we enjoy it.

I was just there on Thursday and it was excellent. :goodvibes They have (according to my family) excellent steak (better than Outback if you're familiar with that chain) and they offer a vegetarian menu that has a couple choices that are amazing that you won't find on the regular menu. We'll definately do it again. Good atmosphere and great food.

The atmosphere is fantastic. I'm from Texas and pretty spoiled with good mexican food so it wasn't the best but it isn't terrible. It is a little pricey but it is a great place to cool down, order a margarita and enjoy the scenery.

Thanks for all the info. I am keeping our ADR the same. We have always wanted to try it after riding through it so now we have our chance. I will start with a frozen drink.

We love San Angel Inn. I love the filet at San Angel and also the grilled tilapia. Its a very neat atmosphere and we have always enjoyed our meals there.

If you are used to Tex Mex, San Angel is very different. But I really do enjoy it and always have, although I found our most recent experience there even better than before.

DH and DD insist they want me to make an ADR there for our upcoming trip. I am hesitant since I can't handle spicy foods any more. Any suggestions?

I am also worried about Ma Ma Melrosa. They want to eat there too. Anything with tomato base puts my stomach into an uproar. I figured there I can handle the ceasar salad.

It depends on your perspective. If you've ever lived in the Southwest (Texas, Arizona, California, etc.) it could be charitably described as mediocre. Compared to the "Mexican" food one can typically find in the Midwest, it's pretty decent.

Atmosphere gets an A+, and after a margarita, who cares?

Im glad that everyone isn't too down on it because my fiance' is totally keen on going there during our honeymoon!!
