I really want to eat here. I've heard horror stories about it, yet I'm still interested. ;)

Anyone have a San Angel story to share? Bad or good - I'd like to hear it all. :)

I, too, have heard a lot of negative things about San Angel, but DH and I LOVE it! We've eaten there several times. The atmosphere is great! You just can't go there expecting the Americanized Mexican food you get even at the most "authentic" restaurants in the U.S. This is wonderful real Mexican food. We have tried a few different dishes and have never been disappointed! Go, enjoy--and decide for yourself! =) And, btw, the picture in our sig. was taken in San Angel on my birthday a couple years ago! :sunny:

We love San Angel! We go every trip. People complain that it is dark inside, but it is themed to look like twilight by the river, so of course the lighting is low! I also think people go in expecting Mexican food like that served at Don Pablos, (insert favorite Mexican restaurant chain here), etc., but that is not what is served- it is the more authentic type. We LOVE the margaritas, and the kids like to watch the boat ride go by. Give it a shot- I think you'll like it! :thumbsup2

We just ate dinner there in March. Loved the Margaritas, the food and the atmosphere (except I'll agree that it is a bit too dark). Didn't like the price. But you know you're going to spend some money, so it wasn't too much of a shock to the system. The Margaritas helped! :lmao:

I'm actually thrilled to hear that the Mexican food isn't the Americanized kind. I'm really looking for something more authentic, even though I do like Don Pablo's. :)

And darkness doesn't bother me a bit. I kind of like that in a restaurant.

Yep. You people have swayed me. I'm calling in my ADR. :teeth:

We went in November and have ADR's again in June. We like the previous posters go every trip for lunch (we prefer the lunch menu). I like the margaritas from the kiosk outside better than theirs so I bring one in with me.

We went in January. It was great. We shared Sopa Azteca and the Chef's Suggestion which was fish with cactus strips and rice served with ranchero sauce. It was fabulous. We're going back in August for lunch and will definitely get the Sopa Azteca again. Oh, and the mango margarita of course! :sunny:

We go to San Angel Inn every year! We prefer the lunch menu rather than the dinner menu. They have this DELICIOUS chicken/nachos/cheese/all sorts of stuff dish that is really, really yummy. I love sitting by the water too!!! A little cramped, but still very fun!!

We ate at the San Angel last year and the whole family loved it!the food was very tasty service was good...and you got plates of tasty chips and salsa...were going back again this year :teeth: i have also heard bad reviews but i decided that maybe it was the "cantina de san angel"? :confused3
