Anyone with Samsung stainless steel appliances - can you tell me how hard they are to keep relatively clean given that the finish is not smudge resistant? I'm specifically looking at the refrigerator but suspect the same SS is used for all their appliances......

Thanks!

We have one. It smudges pretty easily. I'm not one that cares much about that though, so it doesn't really bother me. I do keep stainless steel cleaner wet wipes that make it pretty simple to wipe it down though if I want to clean it up.

Thanks ZellyB - do you like the refrigerator? Do you hear of many problems with them? Around here LG seems to have more issues than Samsung....

We have one and I have found it pretty easy to keep clean. We have had ours for less than six months. What I don't like is the ice and water dispenser. The ice is always cloudy and "hairy" (not smooth), and the cubes are always broken up even though we never used the crushed ice. The water is not cold, just cool, and squirts to the left and not straight into the glass. I would not buy Samsung again.

ETA - this is the one we have

It also is quite loud at times, and there is not enough condiment storage in the doors because of the location of the ice maker.

I don't know if you only want Samsung, but my Frigidaire Gallery appliances are amazing - 4 kids, 2 cats, 1 dog, 1 husband - and they still look as good as the day I bought them 4 months ago. It is advertised as smudge proof and it holds up to that claim so well (my sister's normal SS appliances always looked awful after my kids visited :/ )
This is the line - http://www.frigidaire.com/Collections/Gallery-Collection/

I like mine. I just wipe it once a week with the special cleaner when I do my deep cleaning.

The thing they told us to look for when buying a fridge is rubber seals. I guess the plastic doesn't hold the cold well. Idk... That's why we went this one instead of the other one that was on sale :)

Specifically was looking at a Samsung today but not limited to that brand. Am looking at counter depth french door, and the depth limits my choices somewhat.
Have heard very mixed about Frigidaire reliability lately but people seem to really like them even with the problems.

I was advised to stay from LG as parts and service are difficult to come by. Samsung parts can take a bit to come in but service is said to be good and widely available.

I have stainless steel GE french door that I really like as far as functionality, look, and space, but its IMPOSSIBLE to clean. I've tried everything and no matter what I use, it smears and looks streaky.

Love my Samsung. It is a french door WITHOUT the indoor ice/water (takes up too much room, IMO).

I don't find it terribly hard to keep clean. Certainly easier than my LG stainless in my other house. We've had ours for two years with zero issues. I'd buy it again, that's for sure.

I have a Samsung French door, stainless steel "look." I had wanted white but we needed a fridge immediately and this one was on sale and ready to deliver the next day. Anyway, it gets smudgy but a quick wipe down with a dishrag takes care of it pretty easily and we LOVE the refrigerator, would buy it again without hesitation.

We bought Samsung Stainless Steel appliances about a year and a half ago, and we've been really happy with them. I never found the fridge difficult to keep clean. It was easy to just wipe down once or twice a week.

We bought Samsung appliances in 2013, and then we decided to sell the house late last year, leaving those appliances behind was tough.

I had the 4 door french door model. That middle drawer was amazing, I put the temp setting to meats and my cold cuts lasted days longer than in a regular fridge.
I cleaned them with Weisman's stainless cleaner, simple and fast with a microfiber cloth.

We built a new house and it comes with Whirlpool appliances, I am hoping I will like them.
Not too thrilled to go back to the side by side refrigerator at all.
The plan right now is too put this side by side in the garage in a couple years and go back to the french door.

We have the whole set. Fridge, micro, stove/oven, dishwasher.

I will have to say that it took some time to get used to the LED light bulb they use in the fridge. Now I don't even notice it but it took me some time to get used to it.

I love the fact that it is deep. I can store larger stuff in there.

I don't have an issue with the water/ice. Mickeyboat, I recommend checking your lines and maker. I have SUPER SONIC hard water and my ice is fine.

As far as cleaning the outside, eh, not really an issue for me. It is stainless steel.

As far as the freezer, big enough for us. But we are not big on frozen foods.

This is what I have...

Samsung French door with drawer and freezer drawer.

Not a big problem to keep clean but it has an issue with the ice maker where it freezes up and gets really loud. Still works. Just loud. We had a guy coMe look at it. A known factory defect from Samsung but they don't pay to fix it. $500 if you want it fixed.

Doesn't hurt anything. We just have to
Turn off the icemaker every couple of weeks to let it defrost. I'm not paying $500 more in a fridge that already cost me $2000 to fix a noise that isn't going to do it any harm.

I probably won't buy another Samsung though. Aggravated that it's a known factory defect that they won't fix. They lost my business.

I agree. I have a Samsung French Door SS refrigerator. It does smudge, but it doesn't drive me crazy and it is easy to wipe it. I really like the fridge.

Just be aware that with something like Frigidaire's "smudge-proof" stainless steel, they usually achieve that with a much heavier brushing of the stainless which changes its color. It's not a problem if you commit to an entire kitchen with the same brand - and always replace any failing appliances with the same brand - but if you ever mix the appliances, it probably won't match.

Basically, you just need to consider it a custom color.

I own a SS fridge. I love the look of stainless but yes, it does get smudges.

I tried countless products and found a WINNER!! Kenmore SS CREAM cleaner. Don't get the spray, :sad2: that's junk. The cream cleaner is awesome! Just a nickel size on a paper towel cleans my fridge, micro, and dishwasher. :thumbsup2

I like this one:

We have a Samsung with the French doors. Hate the thing. The flap thing that seals the two fridge doors has broken 4 times. Several other things have broken, too. And the compressor is louder than any other fridge I've owned.

But it's easy to clean!

We have this kind, too. We bought it last year--the house had a tiny fridge, way too small for a family of 6, and when the milk shelf on the door broke, we had to upgrade (such a shame!). We got a really good deal on this particular fridge--someone had ordered it, but then it didn't fit so it came back to Lowe's. So, it was marked down AND on sale, so we got a $2300 fridge for $1300.

At any rate, we love the fridge so much. Like Lorimay said, the drawer is my favorite feature--it can hold a pizza box or platter, you can choose a separate temperature, and food seems to stay fresher longer. We've had no issues with the ice or water. The front shows a few smudges, but is easily wiped off (I'm not that picky). It's important to remember that the front is curved, and won't hold a magnet. We stick magnets on the side.
