--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The cheapest place to buy is online. I prefer Newegg.com. Places in Orlando will rip you off. Check your manual to see how many images fit on a certain size card and then buy enough memory to fit your needs. It is best to have multiple cards in case something goes wrong with one. It is also best to backup your cards while you are there. If you do not have a laptop, all pharmacies can do it for a few bucks. WDW charges around $20 do this if you have no way off property.

hi ukchatfan,
many thanks for your advice, I will look into all the things you mention.
WDW here we come!!

As far as I can tell from checking a camera review site, all Samsung cameras use SD/MMC cards. MMCs are just like SD's but a little thinner and many recent-model cameras can use either interchangeably ... I've seen far more "options" as far as SD cards go, and would recommend them.

Newegg.com is a great source for SD cards. Many people on other camera sites have nice things to say about the Trancend brand....

Echoing ukcatfan, unless you have a way of emptying your cards each night, it's probably best to have a couple of 1G or 2G cards rather than investing in a single 8G (unless your camera has a video mode you're planning to make a lot of use of).

New Egg is a great place to purchase online. Great customer servince in case you were to have problems.

NewEgg is probably tops for service, but there are great deals from other places, too. buy.com often has some great deals, ZipZoomFly has some deals sometimes, as does outpost.com and several others. Amazon also occasionally has a great deal.

Almost without exception, the best deals require you to send in a mail-in rebate. $20 for a 2-gig SD card is considered a very good price, sometimes you can find them for even cheaper. At this point, I wouldn't pay more than $30 for a 2g card no matter whose name was on it.

many thanks for all your replies, I will have a look at newegg as it seems a very good site as its been recommended by a few!
no doubt i will need lots of cards, as my grandaughter is coming with us for the first time and , she will be photographed more times than mickey mouse i bet!

Does your new camera have a "burst" mode? You'll really start filling up the card(s) fast when you use it, but you can capture a lot of action while trying to get that "great" shot! :)

hi, no ive checked my camera manual and no burst mode, i will need to spend time reading through what its got so i can get the best out of it.
i just got it 2 weeks ago, have taken a few pics but nothing fancy, but i will practice for our trip!

Heh ... I've never owned a camera that could do it until I got my new Canon S3 IS ... it's high-speed mode is 2.5 fps; not bad for a P&S camera!

I saw a pretty amazing video on YouTube of the new Canon EOS-1D Mark III Snapping Off Frames Like a House Afire ... 10 fps!! :thumbsup2 It's a sports photographers dream, but I'm sure you fill up even big cards lickety-split! :)

Actually, the Samsung S1030 is listed as having "burst" mode - I prefer the term "continuous" which is what it will probably be referred to as in your manual.

You'll probably find that movie mode is another big memory-card-eater...

Yup ... I can only get about 8-1/2 min per GB, in AVI.

A camera that uses MPEG encoding will get more minutes per GB, but I've read that AVIs are easier to edit. Not really sure, haven't edited anything, yet. :confused3

my head is spinning! ive read your last replies and im completely gobsmacked! as i dont understand all the stuff! lol:yay:
so could any of you give me some instructions for taking best pics, mode etc, say like a typical day at WDW, sunshine, i took some picsof my house the other day some came out real good a couple had a kinda pink tinge to it? and i used the auto mode all the time.
if only i could bring along a personal photographer! lol save all the hassle!
:cheer2:

Lil_comet, nothing to worry about. :) Continuous shooting or "burst mode" means that you hold down the shutter and the camera takes photos as fast as it can - usually somewhere around 2-3 pictures a second. Most cameras can't do this for very long, but for a few seconds at least, usually plenty to get what you want. This is handy if you're trying to do something like get photos of family on a ride as it goes past.

For tips, there's really not much to say for daytime photography - you can probably leave your camera on "auto" and it should do just fine. For indoor or nighttime photography, you have to keep your expectations realistic. You'll probably get some good photos but generally, most all point-n-shoot digital cameras are pretty disappointing in low light.
