Ones any one have the Samsung galaxy Verizon phone?
Do you like it?
Any idea when the iPhone 5 comes out?

I upgraded from the s2 to the s3. I miss my s2. The Samsung galaxy s3 is a nice enough phone but the swype sucks, Disney Mobile Magic is not compatible and it's HUGE. I heard rumors that the iPhone 5 will come out in Nov.

Go to the store and play with it first before committing to buy.

I recently got the S3 and so far I like it. There are a few quirks that I'm still getting used to, but that is to be expected with a new phone. My biggest gripe is that it does not have the greatest reception. My HTC Thunderbolt had much better reception, but the battery life sucked and it was heavy. DW now has my thunderbolt. We will upgrade again in November.

I have and do really like it, but part of me wishes I had gotten the new incredible that came out a couple days before it.
So far it crashed on me one time. To be fair, I was running about 10 different apps, installing a list of new things and was trying to watch a video so it took a lot to crash it but I had the original incredible and never had a problem.

I strongly prefer it to an iPhone, and think that some of the little quirks I don't like will probably be fixed in a software update as it is a brand new phone.

It is very wide and tall, but skinny, sturdy and LIGHT so the size hasn't been a problem for me. It's actually easier to visit the board with.

You might want to try installing Advanced Task Killer. You can set it up to periodically check for idle apps and kill them if not in use. This may help prevent crashes. It definitely helps with battery life.

Wow, is there a list somewhere that shows what phones mobile magic works with? I was just about to switch to T-Mobile and get a Galaxy SIII just to use the apps while in WDW. Does it work on the SII?

I have an SII from work and I hate it. I am not sure hate is a strong enough word. The battery life is awful. I have the Advanced Task Killer installed and it is still awful. To me the entire phone feels cheap. My personal phone is an iPhone 4S and there is just no comparison.

The compatibility issue with Disney Mobile Magic, as far as I'm aware, isn't so much about the phone itself, but rather the carrier. Because the app was built out of a partnership between Verizon and Disney, it's available only for Verizon devices.

*That* said, it's possible to sideload the app onto a phone from another carrier. You won't be able to get it from the Play Store, but if you copy the app binary to your phone (or email it to yourself, etc), and install the .apk, it should run just fine. (I'm running it on a t-Mobile Galaxy Nexus, FWIW)

I've heard people who have the metal or more solid cases say they felt the samsung felt "cheap". Funny about perception. I believe it is a special plastic, but because it is plastic and light, people may think the whole phone is cheap. From what I can tell, the SII was THE phone of 2011 and people are talking about the SIII and the HTC 1X as not only the best phones of 2012, but the best phones ever. I would never own an iPhone so hoping one of these 2 phones is true to the hype. But if they don't run the Mobile Magic App, that would be frustrating.

Actually, Mobile Magic has been available for iPhone and all Android phones since the exclusive ran out with Verizon. But I have heard people saying it didn't work on their particular phone. I know some people were using it with an SII, but I haven't heard reports from any SIII or X1 users.

Yes, the Samsung Galaxy SIII is getting fantastic reviews. I am seriously considering switching from my iPhone (AT&T) to this. I think I can sell my perfect condition unlocked iPhone 4 for enough to upgrade to a Galaxy and still have money left over.

Anyone switched from an iPhone and like the Galaxy better?

OP was referring to the SIII not the SII. I'm not that familiar with the SII, but AFAIK the SIII is a completely different phone.

I updated from the Thunderbolt. I think you will like the SIII better than the Thunderbolt.

The SIII is
  • Considerably lighter than the Thunderbolt
  • Has a much better battery life than the Thunderbolt.

BTW, if you like the kickstand on the Thunderbolt, you can get this case and keep the kickstand.

My phone IS Verizon ;) So it must be the s3 for me since it says right on the s3 that it is not compatible. So that sucks but it is what it is. Wish I would've gone the iPhone route....

You can also try to load it from The Play Store over a wifi connection. A while back, Verizon had blocked PDANet, but people were able to install over wifi.

Mobile Magic runs on my Samsung SIII. I copied the app over from my Thunderbolt, so I don't know if that makes a difference, but it runs fine.

How did you copy the app over from your old phone? I just upgraded from a Droid X to the S3, and want to get Mobile Magic running again.

Here are the steps I followed:
  1. Downloaded and installed App Backup & Restore on the old phone
  2. Backed up the apps I wanted to keep to the SD Card of the Old Phone
  3. Connected the old phone to a PC and copied off the backup files (they're in a directory on the SD Card)
  4. Installed App Backup & Restore on the new phone
  5. Connected the new phone to the same PC
  6. Copied the app backup files to the same directory on the SD Card of the new phone
  7. Ran restore in App Backup & Restore and restored the apps
Hope that helps!

Thanks so much! I will give this a try when I have some quiet time this week.
