Looking for a new cell phone & considering Samsung Galaxy s4 or the iPhone 4. Looking for anybody that has experience with both, if possible.

Everybody I know who owns an iPhone says get it, of course. But Android users says just the opposite.

What do you like or dislike about these phones?

I actually have both the samsung and the iphone right now. The iphone is my personal phone and the samsung is my work phone. I prefer the samsung. The screen is bigger and clearer, but it's a little more complicated then the iphone. My samsung is also a little faster then the iphone. I've ng to only had the samsung for a few weeks so I'm still trying to figure the phone out.

I've had the iphone 4 for about a year and half now and it was my first smart phone. It was really easy learn how to use it. I have always been happy with it but it does take longer to load web pages.

Both are Verizon phones. I hope this helped a little. I'm not the most tech savvy person.

I am an Apple Fangirl, but I wouldn't recommend the iPhone 4. A big reason is the iPhone 4 or 4s is not 4G LTE, you will be stuck with 3G. Also, with the release of a new iOS coming out soon, I think you might be able to run 8 on the iPhone 4s, but not the 4. They have a way of freezing you out that way. They make apps that need a minimum iOS to use them, but the phone won't support the iOS necessary to run the apps.

If you can, get the iPhone 5, 5c, or 5s... they will support 4G LTE. The price on the iPhone 5 will drop soon because of the release of the now one. They should also support a couple new versions of iOS before they turn into dinosaurs.

I have had every version of the iPhone and my ex had the Galaxy S4, which I am pretty familiar with. It really depends on what you're looking for. I would go with the iPhone as its very user-friendly and has just one button, everything else is easy on the touch screen. The Galaxy does have a larger screen, so if you're the type of person to stream videos, etc., that may be a wiser choice for you. I am with AT&T and have never had issues with web pages loading slowly, but I guess that depends on your provider. Any further/specific questions, feel free to ask! Good luck. :thumbsup2

Very good points here! Hello, fellow Apple lover! :lovestruc (And yes, the iPhone 5s is amazing).

I don't think the 5 supports 4g. I thought it was the 5c and 5s only.

Eta: never mind. I guess it depends on the network.

I also have a S4 as a work phone and iPhone as a personal phone. The iPhone is way more intuitive. I struggle with the apps on the S4 and hate the widgets (what the dickens are they???) The iPhone is way more user friendly, I think.

Also, with a cover, the S4 is really a lot heavier and of course, it's bigger to hold. But, if you text more and talk less, that's okay. I talk ALOT on my personal cell, so that's a deal breaker for me. My guess is my kids would care less than me.

ONTH, if you will stream a lot of video, the S4 has a bigger screen, which I think would be good.

That is true, I think some flavors of Straight Talk do not. Verizon definitely supports 4G LTE, that's what I have. I am pretty sure AT&T also does.

I have S3 and friend has s4 mini. I love Apple like next person but I find apps cost more on Apple and it seems like they are bringing out new IOS or phone every 6 mos, also it seems they cost more a lot of times.

I paid nothing for my S3 and I love android platform but do agree Apple is more user friendly for beginning users. I do like my bigger screen and I personally think phones are more Sterdy.

I gave Teenager a choice on what she wanted for her new phone and she chose S3.

Galaxy all the way. Yes Apple is nice, everyone knows that, but Samsung is giving them a run for their money. Apple comes out with new phones constantly, you pretty much need to get a new one just about every year because if you have an 'old' phone, it is rendered 'obsolete' (Apple actually tells you that) and they are all of a sudden are unable to help you with issues it has due to the inferior technology. Yes, that was an actual conversation I had with an Apple rep in my phone store. Needless to say it was my first and last iphone.

The technology on the Galaxy phones doesn't change much from model to model, but I don't mean that in a bad way. I mean that in the sense that once you get used to the phone they aren't going to upgrade the operating system beyond recognition. I find the camera quality, screen resolution to be a higher quality than on the iphone and I love that the my phone is huge. I never lose it, I never forget it, and I never have problems with it. Also, in my...4 years of owning a Galaxy (I upgrade regularly by choice and because I pay like 1/5 the price thanks to my amazing contract with T mobile) I have never had a screen break, which seems to be a really common occurrence with iphones that can be pricey to fix. And, it's not because I haven't dropped my phones either-- the exact opposite honestly. But still, not even a scrape.

Galaxy is durable, fast, reliable, and never 'obsolete.' It's the perfect phone for anyone!

I have an iphone 4. My first smart phone. I like it but it is slow. Looking forward to upgrading in about 6 months.

I have an iPhone 5 (not 5c or 5s) and will upgrade when the new one comes out.

I switched to an Android for about 6 months and it was ok, but I really, really missed iMessage and the ability to seamlessly flow with my Apple products. I have Apple computers and an iPad. It just makes sense to keep everything Apple.

I just went from a droid to an iPhone 5c that I picked up as upgrade at Target for essentially 10 bucks. On sale for $30 with $20 bonus gift card. It works great! Much better pics.

iPhone 4s phones from AT&T support 4G LTE on AT&T network. I noticed on mine right when I got it, so I asked the associate at the store (I researched the phones before buying... that was over 2 years ago). He was surprised I noticed that said that as original iPhone company they snack some update to the phones they sell through their stores so that they work with their 4G. I know it is true 4G because my husband still has 3s on AT&T, and his 3G internet is very slow compared to mine.

I would not buy an iPhone 4 at this point; it's too outdated, especially with the iPhone 6 coming out very soon. If you are going with an iPhone, wait until the new version is announced.

It just depends on whether or not you prefer an iPhone or Android phone.

I have had an iPhone for 2 years now - before that I had a Droid X, which was an Android phone (so take my opinion with a grain of salt as I haven't used a newer Android phone in awhile).

What made me switch was a compatibility thing. We have a Mac and iPad at home, and my husband has an iPhone. If you have a Mac, it just sort of "plays nicely" with an iPhone. Things sync up a little more easily. In contrast, my Android phone worked a little better with my Google account, so it was simple to use the Gmail app and Google Calendar.

In general, I do agree that an iPhone is more intuitive and easier to use. I liked that the Android phone could be personalized so easily, and I could see how someone that really understands computer programming and whatnot would like that (my boss, for example, feels restricted by Apple's iOS and would never get an iPhone - he has a Samsung Galaxy). I also agree that you should not buy an iPhone 4 right now - too old at this point. Right now Walmart has the 5C for less than a dollar or the 5S for $79 if you're up for contract renewal - I'd go with one of those instead if you decide on an iPhone.

I will chime in and echo what so many others have already said. It really depends on what you are looking for in a phone.

I had to make the choice last year and I found that the iPhone is much more intuitive (with features I preferred), but the Galaxy allows you to customize a lot more. I am not the type of user who really likes to customize my phone beyond wallpapers and ringtones, so the iPhone (5s) was my choice and I have not regretted it.

You have another thing to consider though. The iPhone 4 (as someone has already pointed out) is old technology and will soon be rendered obsolete. It may not be as fast as the S4, and it may not take pictures as well as the S4. I think Siri came out with the iPhone 4s, so you won't get that either.

I think those things would be enough to push me over to the S4. BUT, if you can upgrade to the 5c/5s, I would recommend the iPhone over the Galaxy.

I think the iphone is simpler, more streamlined,to use. I like the samsung better for screen size, etc. Plus I like to be able to personalize my stuff a lot to my tastes, and iphone is more of a standard set and use it type of product, the android offers much more variation and options IMHO. If I had to choose I would not get the iphone. (even though I like it ok)

I have an Iphone 4. I love it but as others have said, it's slow and soon to be obsolete. My parents just got 5s's. They are pretty nice. I'm sure the 6 will be great. I wouldn't buy a 4 or 4s as they're 4- and 3-year old technology at this point and Apple has convinced us we need new ($600) phones every 2 years.

I hope to upgrade to a used 5s soon (I have to have a 5c or 5s to get LTE on ST). I'll watch prices after the 6 comes out.

There are a few primary reasons I went with Android. Specifically I bought a Galaxy S3 a little over a year ago from Ebay to use with Net10. I like the look of the phone and the screen better than the iPhone. The Galaxy cameras have always been "better" than their iPhone counterparts that were released at the same time. If I needed to replace after my insurance ran out, and I can't afford a Galaxy phone at the time, I can get a cheap android and keep all my apps. With iPhone, I would have to buy a new iPhone. The biggest reason, the battery. I can buy extra batteries for a few dollars and replace them myself in seconds.
