We went to a new ped. for his 2 month check up. It was the 1st time I'd gone anywhere with the stroller alone but managed the big monster just fine. Everything looks good, he's 12 pounds and 23 inches long. The new Dr seems nice and I liked how the waiting room was divided into well kids and sick kids, they even have different doors. His shots were another story. I'd never heard him scream like that before. I felt so bad for him! It took a while for him to calm down. But he's been sleeping almost all the time since we got home, just woke up enough to eat. Poor guy!

Always the worst part of taking them to the dr. I'm sorry to say it doesnt get any better. I still cry with my 4th ds when he is getting shots and still feel awful for the older ones. Though I dont cry because they are big and wouldnt think its to cool, lol.

Awww, it's hard when our babies get firghtened and angry over their shots. Hope Sam is not feeling fussy now.

I have always thought that all doctors should have well/ill waiting areas, especially pediatricians. I'm glad they are beginning to do that now.

Sonya, check with your doctor, you may want to give Sam a dose of infant's Tylenol before he gets the shots...we used to do that with our Sam and it helped, as she invariably did run a fever and got fussy when she got shots. Taking the Tylenol BEFORE the shots did help.

I can't believe he's two months old already! :)

Sonya,

I echo what Michelle said. Double check w/ your Dr. or Nurse Practitioner, but we started giving DS Tylenol on shot day (before the shots) at about the same age Sam is now. He still cried, but calmed much quicker. He always slept a ton after shots too. (I think all the fussing tuckers them out).

If it makes you feel any better (it won't, didn't for me either) he will soon forget, and it is harder on you than it is on him.

I really like the well child/sick child divisions, especially when they are as itty bitty as Sam.

{{{hugs}}}}--it will be OK.

Debbie

We gave him the Tylenol right before the Drs, if it helped I'd hate to see what would have happened if I hadn't!
He's still sleeping..... I wonder if he'll sleep all night or not at all?

Then, of course, there's my DD11. She cries if she doesn't need a shot. She didn't think she needed one this year and was delighted when she found out she did. Not only that but it is the HepB series so she needs 3 of them! Yippee!

She also loved the dentist and having blood drawn (only once so far but her words were "Oooooh! Look, that's my blood going through the tube! This is sooooo cool!). She wants glasses...doesn't need them. Wants braces...ditto.

I told her she should think of some form of medicine as a career as she is not at all squeamish and is very caring/giving. Of course she'd rather be a tap dancer.

I actually nursed Daniel thru the first few months of shots. Nothing is sadder. He didn't cry very much because of that. Even when I stopped nursing him while he got the shots, I continued to do it immediately after. I think it helped comfort him.

He's 17 months now and I still hate the shots. Greg held him for the last batch and he hardly seemed to notice them, thankfully.

It does get easier.

DD just received 3 shots for her 4 yr old check up. She hadn't had any since she was 18 months. I've never her scream so loud in my life. It broke my heart. She doesn't need anymore now until she's in 7th grade. God help me!

Poor Sam...and poor you! I'm sure it's heartbreaking. DS goes for his first round on shots at the end of August...I'm already dreading it. I guess I'll have to ask our ped about giving him Tylenol before we go.

I was always terrified of shots when I was younger. After being pregnant I think the fear of needles has disappeared!

I'm already preparing myself for Terra's 6 month shots and they are still several weeks away. One thing I've found that helps alot is to feed her an hour or so before we leave. Then, I get ready to feed right before the shots. As soon as the fourth needle is out of the way, I get her to eat right away. Breastfeeding seems to soothe her fairly quickly. (Now, daddy is another story. I think he needs a shot of something to help him feel better after Terra's shots). She always sleeps off and on the rest of the day and then through the night after her shots.

<<<<hugs>>>> for Sam and for you.
Tia

Michelemouse - I am like your DD. I love having blood drawn. When I was young, I always wanted them to prick my finger so that I could watch the blood travel up the tube. :)

Hard to belive he is 2 months already. have any updated pics? :D

Poor Sam. Is he fussy today?

I always gave my kids a dose of Tylenol before they went for shots, also. My ds loved to have his blood drawn as a baby, he thought it was so interesting to see something red on his finger. He outgrew that now and has a nice little fit if they ask for his finger. My dd still thinks anytime they draw blood on her, it's a shot. She went for her 10 year check up in April. She asked the nurse that weighed her if she had to have a shot, the nurse said no, then the nurse asked for her finger to draw her blood. My dd almost had a fit. I explained to the nurse that my dd equates all needles as shots.

Wow, Sonya, Sam is getting SOOOOO BIG (hard to say those two words without sort of singing them, LOL :teeth: ). Yep, those shots are always tough, usually a few tears and cries/screams. We do love them so much and want no hurt to come to them.

A real cutie.
