a friend suggested that i submit the following letter to the GF 3 days before arrival. she sent the same letter and was pleasantly suprised to find that she was given an upgrade upon arrival. she didn't think anyone really read the letters. as i've said before, i'm not really one to request extras but it would be nice for the kids. suggestions, comments, thoughts appreciated!

Attn: Room Assignor

My son’s first Disney vacation is almost here! I wanted to see if you could possibly accommodate our room request for May 3-10. We have a garden/marina view, non-smoking room. We will be celebrating our 15-year wedding anniversary and my wife’s birthday during our stay and will be grateful if we could get a room in your Sago Cay building (we’ve read great things about it). Thank you in advance for any help you can give us in making our visit extra magical!

They assign them before 3 days. If you have your requests listed in your reservation no need to fax. Many of the resorts are ignoring faxes.

Also keep in mind they are only requests. Many people are celebrating multiple events when they visit WDW.

It appears most of these requests are now filed in the round metal filing cabinet near the fax machine.

Did you make these requests on your reservation? I would do that also.

my original reservation has a request for Big Pine Key. that was before i found this awesome forum and the wealth of information it provides. i learned that Big Pine Key can be a bit noisy because of the pool and a bit heavy on foot traffic. because my son suffers from severe migraines, the last thing i want to chance is too much noise near the room.

i've heard so many pros/cons about faxing room requests that it's driving me crazy. i fully understand that it is only a request but part of me would love a surprise upon check in, and part of me feels embarrassed sending the request.

has anyone else ever sent a similar letter? what did the letter say?

Never sent a letter; I've always just noted requests on the reservation and have never been disappointed. You can always call Disney and update/change the requests on your reservation at any time before you arrive. I would do that instead of faxing a request (which as noted may be ignored).

can i call myself even though i used AAA to book the trip?? i called my agent last monday with a few last minute questions and she seemed bothered by my call. she said she'd get back to me the same day but never did. here it is a week later and i'm hesitant to call her again. the agent is the one who suggested i fax a room request letter.

Disney is only supposed to talk to your TA. Email AAA and just ask them to add a Sago Cay building request to your reservation. Most guests are celebrating something, it doesn't sound like you're asking for a free ugprade. Wait a week and check with Disney. If it's not added you might see if you can transfer your reservation to another TA, you can't if you have an AAA room discount and MYW dining.

They do the room request 4 days before. I call the resort directly and make the request.

Jasminesmommy-- may i ask... what do you say during the call?

Sounds like you need a new travel agent!!!

yes. i don't think i got much of a discount using them. i've had to question a few things just to find out that the agent had forgotten to enter our membership number! any suggestions for future travel plans appreciated.

I',m a newbie here, but will be heading to the grand floridian in 14 days, what is the difference in buildings and why is Sago Cay building the best? Thanks in advance for your answers :cloud9:

Race4Fun: There is really no difference in the overall setup of the buildings, just where they're located in relation to what you're looking for.

SagoCay is close to the main building with the monorail transportation, Gasparillas Grill (24 hour counter service) and a shortcut to the bus stop. It's sort of off the beaten path, so you don't get much foot traffic over this way. That can lead to a quieter experience. If you have a garden view in this building, you can watch the monorail zoom by. It's a 2 or 3 minute walk to the pools and the beach.

Conch Key is another one that's off the beaten path, so it's quiet. It also happens to be the furthest from the main building, pools and beach, but you are steps from the resort boat dock.

Big Pine Key and Boca Chica are very centrally located to the main building, pools and beach. This makes these buildings popular choices also.

SugarLoaf and the Main Building only house concierge rooms.

You wouldn't be disappointed with any of the buildings, or the views. They are all wonderful. Some guests just like to be closer to certain things, or want a quieter location. Just a matter of personal preference and not that any one building is better than another.

Thanks Tammi for the information! :wave2: There is so much to know about all this, thank goodness for this board!

I say I will be coming in on date and that I am calling for a room request. They transfer me to the person who takes my request. In 2003 I did the request and got the perfect room so last year I called and told them the # of the room before and told her something in that location would be perfect and I recieved the same exact room.

only once did i fax a room request... in '01 to cbr... i got the worst room in the worst building not near anything and a horrible hike to the bus stop (we got drenched daily!)... a horrible hike to the food court/main pool... and it was even a hike to the quiet pool/laundry room (so much so that i was afraid to go alone at night... i've never been afraid at disney!)... *and* we had friends meeting us there for two of our nine nights and asked that we be near one another... *THEY* got a room in what is now the 'preferred' building, close to everything except US! ergo, i have not faxed a request ever since...

I was just on the phone with a CM modifying my current reservations. I asked about faxing a room request. She said she used to work at the Poly and loved to get the room requests that were comical and creative. She said she always tried to accommodate the request. She said to send the fax five days prior to arrival.
