We like first floor rooms, and have a request in for Samoa at the Poly next month. If we are lucky enough to get our request, do the first floor rooms have a view of the Volcano pool?

We stayed first floor Samoa last July. It was PERFECT. Great view of the Volcano Pool. We could actually watch the kids swim from our patio. We would choose that location again but we are doing LVC this year. Have fun. When will you be there?? We are at The Poly July 8-11.

TheRobbs,

I am lucky enough to be going to the Poly around the same time as you 7/2-7/9 and I do have a question for you about the ground floor in Samoa, do you hear all of the noise from the pool and are there a lot of people constantly walking by your room.

Here is why I ask; I love the idea of sitting on your patio and watching your kids because I have a 5yo and a 15 month old and it will be great if I can sit on the patio while my baby naps and still watch my 5 yo at the pool, however, I am concerned about the noise level. I would appreciate your advice.

Thanks

LuvAriel,

Glad you asked. We NEVER had a problem with the noise level. Yes, you can hear everyone with your slider opened, but with the door closed we never heard a peep.
As far as privacy goes. There is a about a 15 ft wide Green Belt between your patio and the walkway in front. You could watch all the people walking by, but it was not close enough to feel like people could see into your room. Infact, sitting on the Patio is when I finally met Tikiman for the first time. From then on he wouldn't leave us alone.(You know I'm kidding Steve)We really loved Samoa and will miss that location this year.

Thanks for the quick reply, I was upgraded by Disney to the Poly so I feel like I do not want to over do it with a written request, however, when I check-in I do want to ask if Samoa 1st floor pool side is available and I was worried about the noise level, however, your post just convinced that I am making the right decision. Thanks for your advice.

My favorite Standard View/location in WDW. The last three times we have stayed at the POLY in Standard view has been at the Samoa. We have requested and received the Samoa building...ground floor...volcano pool view in rooms 1609, and 1608 twice.

I read on another thread that the line for the valcano pool slide is so long that kids have to wait so long that they only go down once. What has been your experience? Is that just during the midafternoon when it is crowded?

I wanted to warn you that this would not be safe at all IMHO. Besides the lawn that the Robbs talked about, there is also landscaping around the pool, a deck, etc.. We've been on that side of Samoa too and while it is absolutely great, it is not as if you can see the surface of the pool that well from the lanai. Some rooms probably have a better view than others but I doubt any have a clear view of the whole area. A child can get into trouble in the water so quickly.....

I know once you are there you will see what I mean but I just thought you shouldn't get your expectations set on that scenario.

Thanks for the warning, from your explanation it does sound frightening, what I neglected to say is, that I will be with my mother and my DH so there will ALWAYS be an adult with my 5 yo, I guess I just do not want to be left out of the fun while my 15 mo sleeps, this way I can still keep an eye on my 5 yo while my baby sleeps.

Thanks for your post.

Oh, thanks so much for explaining that. :cool1: I was really worried!

BCV23,

You brought up a great point. Maybe I should have been a little more clear. While my wife or myself was in the pool with the kids, it was fun for the other to relax on the balcony and watch. I would never leave them in the pool by themselves. Sorry I wasn't very clear.
