I grew up in a fiercely democratic household, as did my husband. Today, our parents are still democrats, but we switched somewhere in our twenties/early thirties. What about you, are you in the same political camp as your parents?

I grew up in a conservative/Republican household and still follow that line as do my parents and siblings.

I'm still conservative, like my parents, but I'm only 19. There's always time to change if I need to. My dad, though, was raised Democratic and is now staunchly Republican.

It was never spoken about in my household when I was a child, it was private business and they thought I should grow up and make my own decisions.

Now that I vote, we talk about it openly, I am 100% in the other direction from my grandma who raised me.

The same. My parents were Democrats except for one weird vote for Nixon. :lmao: We love to tease my mom about the one Republican she chose to vote for.

DD is a Democrat, too, although her dad is a Republican.

When I first registered, I registered as a Democrat, because that's what my mom was and I didn't know anything about politics. Within a few years I changed my affiliation to Republican and that's where I've been since.

Most all my friends and family are Democrat....I live in Maryland!

My mom was a Democrat. My brother, cousin and I are the only Republican's that I know of in my family.

My parents were never very political. Honestly, I don't think they ever voted until I was in high school. I think I was born a Republican. I remember in 1992 election, I debated as George Bush, Sr. because I was one of about 3 Republicans in class. We were usually seated in alphabetical order, and it just so happened that I had to sit between "Bill Clinton" and "Al Gore" during most of my high school career. "Ross Perot" usually sat to therigh of me!:lmao:

I am still registered as an Independent, but I have leaned more Republican in the years since I married my DH.

My mother is staunchly Democrat, and that leads to some interesting conversations. My parents rarely discussed their political beliefs with me, my Dad never did. But, my Mom when I was younger would. She hasn't lately.

My family, ILs, co-workers, neighbors are Republicans all the way. I registered as a Democrat at 18, though I've voted Republican & Independent. DH is registered as a Republican. We were both undecided since there are characteristics we like about both candidates. We really don't care for Palin so both of us voted Obama. I've had some very bad comments and quite a few people not speaking to me today or mad at me today because of it.

Although my parents never really talked politics, I know Dad always voted for whomever the union told him to vote for.

I've been voting for 20 years now and I've always voted Republican.

My father was a Democrat and my mother Republican. I voted Republican for my first three elections and voted Democrat on 04 and now.

My parents voted every year but were never affiliated with one particular party. They voted for who they thought would do the best job for our country/state/county/township and for our family. I am the same way. I have no affiliation and DH is registered as independent.

Registered Independent- but I generally vote Democrat
Parents are both registered Republicans but one is voting for Obama this time.

Growing in an active duty military family- politics is/was very important. My father tended to be a Republican and my mom was a democratic.. Actually my conservative dad married a hippie which makes me an Independent.. Although sometimes I feel I want to be a Anarachist (with a few rules)!:rotfl:

I was the first person in my family as far back as we know to register Republican. My Older brother registered Dem at first and then switched. My sister and little brother registered Republican right off the bat.

We were prohibited from telling my grandfather we were Republicans, but that was because he still blamed the republicans for ending slavery more than anything else. (He was born in the deep south in 1903 and had relatives alive that had actually lived though the civil war when he was growing up)

I don't recall my parents being very politically minded. I decided in high school that I identified with the Republican Party. I tend to be very independant on local races. In fact, I usually vote in the Democratic Primary - because many of our local races are decided in that primary. However on a state and national level, I tend to stick to my Republican beliefs. Though, I must say I feel like the RNP is out of touch with many of their own.

ETA: I did vote for Perot.

My parents are beyond yellow dog Republicans. Not only would they vote for the yellow dog if he were the Rep nominee, they seek out information on nonpartisan races and only vote for Republicans for school board, etc., too.

I'm registered "unaffiliated" for practical reasons (live in a Republican county), but almost always vote for Democrats for statewide offices, congress and president. Locally, I vote for mostly Republicans b/c they're usually the better candidates.
