We just got back from an overnight at WDW after our latest Disney cruise. Just for the heck of it, I called about an Illuminations cruise. I thought there was no chance whatsoever, since it was a Saturday night. But there had been not one, but TWO cancellations! Needless to say, hubby and I grabbed one of the ressies. So if you cannot get a cruise before your trip, be sure to call when you get down there. It never hurts to ask...the worst that can happen is that they'll say no.

Sounds great! If you want to book a cruise by yourself. I can't afford that for one person! I sure wish I could find someone to share with. Ohwell!
Glad you got your reservations! That is wonderful!

Our good friends forgot to call at 90 days out for our June trip after I had written down the number and date to call. I called several times within those 2.5 months looking for a cancellation, but there were none. The day before our arrival, I called ONE LAST TIME, and got lucky. Since cancellation is allowed up to 24 hours prior to the cruise, you can often snag one last-minute. Of the 5 times we have done the Illum. Cruise, there was an empty boat 4 times.

It definitely felt odd with just the two of us. Usually we have our ressies 90 days out and sail with a group of DISers, or else we go with friends. It was pricey, but we decided to treat ourselves since we haven't seen Illuminations in ages (with all our Disney cruising, we don't get to the parks too often anymore). Even though it was chilly, they provide blankets on the boat so we wrapped up like mummies and kept plenty warm. Also, I never knew this before, but our driver said that smoking is not allowed on the boats. I never thought to ask previously, since we are not smokers.
It was funny to see a family of ducks swimming in front of the fire, which didn't phase them in the least. I guess they get used to it, or maybe they were enjoying the warmth!

That is so great antigeg. I remember Capt. Derrell telling me that his boat often sits idle because people cancel at the last minute.

He suggested that you keep trying for a reservation even while you are at WDW. Sounds like that worked out well for you.
