Disneyland Paris 2nd – 4th December 2005

Cast:

Me, Sam, 28 going on 7, lover of all things Disney especially Stitch!
My better half, Jane, 48 (I know, that’s what you call an age difference!) Loves Pirates and Rock n Roller Coaster.

Background:

This is the first holiday we have had this year (apart from visiting my folks in Spain) due to me having to use most of my leave for my University course. It came at the perfect time after exams, job stress and being a week and half without hot water and heat due to the boiler dying!

Thursday 1st December 2005 - The packing..

I finished work at 3:45 on Thursday, having not done an awful lot all day as I was so excited! Drove home with a big smile on my face, it’s almost my favorite part of any holiday, leaving work for the last time knowing you will never be further away from work than you are at that moment!

I picked the dog up from home and drove him over to our friends who were very kindly putting him up for the weekend. He’s a blue roan cocker spaniel called Riley, and our friends also have two blue roans, Charlie and Frisbee, luckily they all get on really well so we knew he was going to have a whale of a time. I didn’t stay too long because I still had to pack… and ‘cause he’s my baby and I hate leaving him!

Drove home and finshed packing, had dinner and watched Lilo and Stitch in bed. I’d bought the DVD specially for tonight as we hadn’t seen it and had wanted to for ages, we both really enjoyed it and I fell head over heels in love with Stitch, he’s the coolest and is now my favorite character. We set the alarm and tried to fall asleep, knowing that when we woke up we would be on our way to Disneyland!

Friday 2nd December 2005 – On our way…

The alarm went off at 4:45 am and we blearily got washed and dressed, me jumping into the bath with a cry of “WE’RE GOING TO SEE MICKEY TODAY!!”. We loaded the car up and set off at 5:30 am which was exactly on plan. We had the Disney greatest hits CD blasting as we made our way down to the junction for the M1, as we pulled up to the junction I could see flashing lights and my heart sank. The junction was closed, aaaargh! We now had two options, either go north on the M1 and get onto the Southbound side at junction 22 or head south through the country to junction 20. I immediatley turned round and started heading back the way we had just come, I didn’t dare go north to come south in case the whole of the southbound side was closed and then we’d have to go to junction 20 anyway. As we headed out into the country, through the slow, winding roads we were both getting more stressed, we knew that we would be cutting it fine to get to Ashford for the 10am checkin time and we were seriously worried that we would miss the train. We finally made it onto the M1 at 6:30 and I put my foot down and bombed it in the fast lane until about Luton where traffic was slowed to a virtual standstill at some points. I kept looking at the clock and trying to formulate a plan for if we did miss the train!

Luckily the M25 and M20 were clear and we actually made it to Ashford at about 9:30, plenty of time to spare! We dumped the car (in the car park… we didn’t just leave it on the side of the road or anything!) and after wrestling with a luggage trolley with a mind of it’s own, made our way to the terminal. Once we were checked in we sat and had a delicious bacon baguette between us and waited for them to call us onto the train. We noticed that they called the passengers down to the platform about 10 minutes before the train was due to depart so at 10:15ish when we heared “will all Disneyland passengers please…” we stood up… and sat straight back down again when they continued.. “be advised that the train is delayed. This is due to the train in front of it breaking down. We will give you more information as we get it”. With a sigh we sat back down with all the luggage. Speaking of luggage, one of the stupid things we did on this trip was to take holdalls instead of wheeled suitcases, this will have an impact later when we get to Newport Bay. Anyway, we waited about 15 minutes and were starting to get bored so I ran down to the shop and bought a pack of cards, the hour and three quarter delay passed much quicker after that as we played a spirited game of rummy.

Finally, at 12:15 we got the call that the train was here and we could get on, hooray!

More tommorrow.. better get some work done or I’ll get into trouble!

I love that bit too Sam!:cool1:

Shame you were slightly delayed, but what can you do? Playing a game is always a good way to distract me, it stops me getting grumpy. I'm all ears about the luggage - I was thinkiing of holdalls for January but I will have to read your part two first.

Looking forward to the rest! :)

Need pictures though. ;) Although I can't talk as I haven't even wrote a trip report!

That was a really interesting read Sam!! I'm really getting into the spirit with you and can't wait to hear what happened next!! :Pinkbounc

Brilliant start- shame about your delay. Can't wait to hear more. :-)))).

That was nice to read just before going to bed...... can't wait for the rest

I do so agree! You kind of enter a limbo state don't you, on that last day at work. You give pitying looks to the other poor souls who aren't going to Disneyland and think 'this time tomorrow......'

I've got months to go but I'm already heading for LIMBO!!!! [we don't have a limbo dancer in the smilies so a BANANACONGA will have to do

How annoying is that - you rush to get there then the train's delayed?! Looking forward to reading about your arrival at the park.

Sorry for the delay with the reports guys, I was at University all weekend *yawn* and now have a stinking cold and am on training with work all week!

Will try to post more this weekend!

Cheers for the nice comments,
Sam
