I just arrived in Salt Lake City for a 4 night business trip. Any recommendations on where to eat. I am staying at the Marriott University Park, so not right "Downtown". Also, I would be alone for dinner. Thanks in advance!

Are you looking for something that is unique to the area or one of the chains? Also what kind of budget did you have in mind?

As far as budget, I am from the Boston area, so a nice dinner in the $25 range would be acceptable. Something unique to the area would be nice, but also just a nice place to eat would be great.

In that price range there are many options. Sorry it has taken me so long to respond. It has been a crazy day here! Many of these are from friends recommendations as our eating out budget is small so we can do DISNEY!

Cancun Cafe is good if you like Mexican but that is all the way in Fort Union but if you don't mind driving and the prices are very reasonable.

The Roof in the Joseph Smith Memorial building has a wonderful buffet and the restaurant next to it is good too. When I say buffet don't be frightened this is good, ie not up chuck a rama. The dessert bar is wonderful and the view is nice.

McGraths Fish house is downtown and I've heard is decent.

Mullboons is good on some days and just OK on others. A lot of people around here go nuts for the shrimp bowl but I personally think it is overrated. That is downtown.

I'm trying to think of what is by your Hotel and I'm drawing a blank. Actually isn't that the one that's plunked down in the middle of an office park?

The Old Salt City Jail is fun. You eat in the old jail that has been redone. It is also a theme B & B.

La Puente is another decent Mexican place.

I hope this has helped. My stomach is growling. Did you want company. My DH, DS and I love to eat! Just kidding! Let me know where you decided.

I was just in Salt Lake City for business as well and I would have to second the recommendation of The Roof resaurant. The buffet was exquisite!

We also ate at Flemmings Steakhouse which is at the end of the TRAX line.

Those were the only two places we really ate nice at. Have a good trip.

Thanks for the replies! Tiiigergirl, this Marriott is right in the middle of an office park! I got lost following my Mayquest directions from the airport, and I haven't yet left the hotel. (Our office is directly across the street) But I don't want to be here in Salt Lake City without venturing to downtown. It looks beautiful - as the mountains surely are! I will venture down either tonight or tomorrow night and I will have to decide between the Roof and Fleming's Steakhouse. Since I travel so much and usually stay in Courtyards, when I stay in a Marriott, I have access to the Concierge Lounge. Dinner last night was just nibbles there !!!! Also travel meal allowance is $35/day, and I don't eat that much, so I can splurge on dinner once in a while (I don't do it often when travelling) Thanks again!
