Alright, so we're in the middle (start?!) of trying to get some renovations done. We're still getting quotes, so we have salesmen & contractors coming in left and right. I cannot believe some of these people. I've had 1 salesman I was comfortable with, and the rest of them - ugh. Why can't they just sit down with you and simply go through that they're proposing, the costs & benefits and give you a quote? So far I've had:
- 1 guy try to ingratiate himself with me by asking what I do for a living etc and then trying to make small talk about that on follow-up calls. I'm a no-nonsense person, I just want to know what you can do for me and how much it will cost. I don't really want to talk about my work, my family, or my personal life when getting a quote.
- 1 guy basically storm through, trying to more or less bully me into things that were more than I wanted.
- 1 guy that didn't seem to want to do the job at all - he kept saying that I could have "someone" come in and do it on a weekend and it would be cheaper. Cheaper, sure, but what about quality and warranty?
- 1 guy this morning that, despite the fact that my kitchen table was almost entirely clear, insisted on sweeping the items on my cooking island off to the side so he could show me his materials there.
- 1 guy this afternoon that was noisily chewing his gum all the time he was here. All I could hear was *smack* *smack* *smack*. Ick. Oh, and when I called that one to make the appointment his questions were: name, address, will your husband be there? Excuse me? Everyone else has been happy to fax/email the quotes in, not this guy - he had to sit at the table for an hour while he worked out a price.
- 1 guy that was going to fax a quote, and then didn't. But he did send someone out to give me a quote on a sunroom (HOW much? Right, thanks).
And 1 guy who returned my call at almost 10pm at night, made an appointment and then never showed up. He was supposed to be here more than a week ago, still hasn't shown up or called. Next!
ARGH!
