Hey there,

just wanted to ask if there is something like an "end of the year" Sale at the Shops in the Cruise Line ships?
We'll bei cruising on the Fantasy Nov. 25th. Can I expect, f.e., that Merchandising with 2017 on it (like mugs, Pins, Photo Album etc.) will be discounted?

Do I have to pay taxes while shopping on a sea day?

You don't pay tax no. In relation to "end of season" this is kind of a maybe answer I'm afraid. The majority of the end of year stock will end up at the Character Warehouse in Orlando later in the year (the 2016 stuff was in there in May when I went). They however may have some stuff onboard reduced too it just depends on how much is left really. I know on the last Transatlantic cruise I was on they had some of the Med stuff out reduced during the cruise so they do sometimes do it its just not guaranteed. What I would say is November would be very early for the majority of discounts its usually the cruise just before that tends to get the most but as said its not unheard of. Also if you are a previous cruiser you do get a discount in the shop I think (well at least you do for Gold & Platinum)

I have seen things reduced in the shops a few times.
We were on the last cruise for Hawaii in Sept 2015 (there were only 2), I thought for sure Hawaii specific things would be reduced, nope not one bit.
I was looking even after we got home on DIsneystore.com nothing there either.
I guess like the PP said they go to the warehouse stores, I never went and looked though.
I bought a few things anyway though while on the ship.
It was strange the first night the ship opened the stores there was a line forming and the cast members were surprised. I think people were afraid they were going to run out of cruises specific items.

I'm curious about the dated-stuff switchover, too. We set sail on Dec 30th, 2016, and they had 2017 ornaments, etc in the store already. I assumed (could be wrong!) they must have had 2016 on similar items for the Dec 23rd sail date (b/c people would want Christmas cruise items with the date they actually were on the cruise), but who knows when they sold out of that, I suppose! I was hoping to catch Christmas item sales, and that didn't happen. I don't recall any dated item sales, myself.

We usually sail at the beginning of December so do find quite a bit of dated merchandise to be on sale. Sometimes they also have items on sale from prior cruises - I think we once picked up a shirt on sale on a non-Mediterranean cruise for DH that was for a Med cruise (no date, just had DCL and Mediterranean on it). We'd done two Med cruises previously and he hadn't bought anything when we were on them so he was happy to be able to get one and on sale. You just never know what they might have or when or if it will go on sale. We typically check every day as they seem to rotate merchandise through. Stopping by after dinner on the way back to the stateroom has become something of a ritual.

On the last cruise before the end of Star Wars Day at Sea, they ran a sale on dated SW merchandise. I would imagine whatever didn't sell would go to the Character Warehouse in Orlando to clear out. We picked up two hoodies, a few tee shirts and an ornament. I think it was half price.

I'm just glad DCL doesn't clutter up their hallways with sale items and gold-by-the-inch like other lines. Princess was like running a gauntlet every day.

We sailed in June, and there were a few things on sale. They weren't in a specific section or had a "sale" display with them. You just had to check the price tags to see. There were some men's polo shirts on sale. And I'm currently wearing a quarter zip sweatshirt that I bought on sale. :)

There is sometimes clearance stuff and it gets snapped up quick. I've seen DCL stuff at character warehouse too so I guess if it doesn't sell on the ship they send it there

Occasionally there's some discounted stuff. Most is saved for crew sales and then the majority stays in the crew store forever until they finally offload it (I once got a shirt dated 2013, and it was 2015...)

There was British Isles merchandise on sale during Dover-Barcelona, and the Med merchandise came out the day we crossed in to the Med.

I did get winter Alaska merchandise, headband and gloves, on sale at the end of the Alaskan cruises one year. I guess that they would not be big sellers in Orlando in the Character Warehouse, unless you were visiting there from a cold weather state.

Thanks for all your replies :-)

I guess we'll just wait and see then. Maybe we'll visit the Character warehouse on the Day the Cruise ends as our flight home will be in the evening.
