We have only sailed in and out of Port Canaveral with DCL, but we are considering an East bound Panama Canal in the future. The last couple of years, that cruise has returned to Galveston and not Port Canaveral and Galveston is not a port we are familiar with. We would be flying home, and I am wondering what is the closest airport to the Galveston Port, and what transportation is available from the Port to that airport?

Hobby and George Bush International (both in Houston) are the closest major airports. In the past DCL has had transfers to George Bush.

For our upcoming cruise, the only options for transfers from DCL were to Bush. It is the farthest one of the two. After much research, we chose to have a car service give us a ride both ways. Car rental costs were prohibitive - that might be because we were looking around NYE. I did not consider shared shuttle services.

Hobby is closer to the port and is the only option if you want to fly Southwest.

Call rental costs always seem prohibitive in this area. Enterprise is the only agency that's on island, and their one-way drop off these are often astronomical. There are are several shuttle companies that operate between Galveston and both Houston Bush in Houston Hobby. As others have said, Disney in the past has only provided transportation to Houston Bush. Www.galveston.com is there official homepage, and they do have transportation information.

Hobby is primarily served by Southwest. Bush is served by basically every other airline on the planet. Hobby is on the south side of Houston, Bush is on the north side. Depending on traffic, it can take some time getting there.

The Panama Canal cruises have really active groups, and usually people band together and rent a private bus that takes everyone. Usually cheaper than Disney.
