SAHM/Student got Jury Duty Summons? Help?

Same in IN. I got a one time deferment as a courtesy and was told they provide free childcare if there is no one else to care for the children. I called in each day the second time and I was never called in so it was a moot point.

About four years ago, my DH had to take off work for jury duty. Only it was me that had the jury duty so he had to watch the kids. Indianapolis doesn't allow much leeway, but I've been here almost 15 years and only been served once.

Good luck, I hope you get your service delayed. In KY, SAHM is NOT a valid excuse, neither is student. I live in a town with the states 3rd largest college and it doesn't work. You can ask for a deferment within a year without a problem usually.

I got my jury duty deferred 7 years ago because I'm a teacher. In my neck of the woods, you have to be "on call" for 30 days. So you call in each morning to see if you have to report. I told the judge that there was no way I could leave my students with a substitute for 30 days.

I was allowed to serve my duty during the summer. It was kind of neat to actually sit on a jury.

My DH is now a corrections officer. I have often wondered if I got summoned again, if a judge would dismiss me for that. It seems like a conflict of interest.

Nope, not a conflict of interest. Why would it be? I have police officers themselves in a jury pool. No reason for a conflict as long as you can presume someone innocent until proven guilty.
