Has anybody stayed at the Sagamore? We're looking for a trip over Christmas. Would like to see some snow and do some skiing.

It's a beautiful old hotel. We live less than an hour away and stay a couple of times a year. A few restaurants, ranging from pub to a super nice place with a strict dress code. We tried to take ds10 at the time to the Trillium, but he only had black jeans, which were not considered dress pants!

There is a great spa and indoor pool. There are rooms in the hotel as well as condo's (I think they call them lodge) ... just a note some of those are a hike to the main building ... there is a shuttle. I would ask for one that is close. Almost NO nightlife, about 11 the pub will close. Next to nothing in the town (especially in December, just about everything will be closed).

As far a skiing, it's maybe 1 hour to Gore, 2 to Lake Placid. Please let me know if you have any more questions.

Yes, I stayed at the Sagamore. It was very nice. We stayed in the lodges that were very much like the one-bedrooms at OKW with the exception of a smaller bath of course. The outside porch over looked the lake. We went in the summer time but the winter must be very nice also. They have three dining areas that I remember-one the grill downstairs where you can get lunch, the two dinning areas upstairs had one with a buffet and the other was their top restaurant. I don't think they allow children in the last one unless they are 13 or so. It was a real gormet meal. They have a large indoor pool..I believe in the winter they have shuttle service to one of the ski areas, not sure about that. First class service is another thing they have. The Sagamore is listed on the the Preferred Hotels and Resorts Worldwide. They had the preferred status since 1995. They have a cocktail lounge in the main building with entertainment nightly, no children allowed. Great place for adults.

My wife was at the Sagamore last weekend! She was there for a law seminar, and came back full of praise for the place, wishing that the kids and I had been able to come with her.

By the way (don't tell anyone!) she did duck out of one seminar activity (shhhh!) to get a facial.

We have stayed there for Thanksgiving on a few occasions. One we even used points because it was a great deal to do so.

It is great hotel and there is lots for even kids to do over any holiday period. Everything from swimming to building gingerbread houses.

We stayed over New Years a few years ago (pre DVC) and enjoyed it very much. If you plan to go skiing, skip the shuttle and drive yourself, the shuttle doesn't get you ther etil after 10am, so you miss several hours of skiing. It is around an hour drive.

We jsut got back from a stay there.
it was incredible. We stayed in a lodge suite and we blown away.
The service is excellent.

Now you’re talking my neck of the woods. We’ve stayed there two or three times in the past. Most recently Valentines weekend. We’ve always stayed in the Lodge Suites. They can be a little distant from the main hotel. You should ask for a close unit.

It is a great place. You would probably fly into Albany and it is an hour north on I87. You could pass through Saratoga Springs. It is also about ten minutes from Lake George village. In the summer this place is very busy and if you are there the last week in July and all of August, you can go to the track. The resort also has an excellent golf course.

There is plenty to do in the winter. They have trips to the ski resorts and tobogganing. In February they have a Winter Carnival on the lake. The fall foliage season is fantastic. Usually this time is booked far in advance. Columbus weekend is the big weekend.

The Trillium is excellent. The food is very gourmet. They have some menu samples on their web site listed above. I’m sure you’d have a great time any time of the year. Christmas should be a very nice time. On Christmas of 02 we had a storm of about 36 inches and a couple of days later one of 12-14 more.
