Hi!
Has anyone ever stayed at either of these properties, be it with or without points? What room category did you have? Did you like the property? Thanks!

I haven't stayed at either, but I didn't think Sagamore was an option now that DVC changed over from II to RCI. I know we looked at the Sagamore last year when it was through II, but never booked. We figured we're out of luck with it since they changed to RCI and its not a property with them. If I'm wrong...PLEASE let me know...because we had really wanted to stay there as well.

We had points that we had to use or lose, so we used them to stay at the Mandarin Oreintal (in Washington DC). The hotel was very nice, but parking was very expensive - $49/day if I remember correctly. We looked at it as getting a really nice hotel for $49/day.

There weren't a whole lot of dining options in the immediate area, and it was about a 10 minute walk to the nearest metro station. It was also about a 10 minute walk to the Smithsonian/National Mall area.

The room was huge, all marble bathroom, high quality linens and a comfortable bed. The pool was a smallish lap pool that wasn't open terribly late. I was there with my DH and 2 DDs. Not a lot of children staying there (not surprising) but the kids had a good time. We stayed in a preferred/water view room. It had an ok view - our window faced Alexandria.

If you have points you need to burn, I recommend it. I would not however pay out of pocket to stay there - we could get something with cheaper parking and closer to the metro for less money in Alexandria.

We loved the Mandarin Oriental in Washington, DC! It was very nice, high end hotel. We flew in for a long weekend with DS14 because he missed his school field trip due to surgery. We "accidentally" chose the weekend that the cherry blossoms hit!

The hotel is right by the tidal basin, so we could easily walk out our hotel and around the basin. You can walk to other attractions, but you have to be able to walk quite a bit.

The concierge desk was very helpful in answering questions, getting tickets, etc.

I can't wait until we can go back.

I haven't been to the sageamore, but have a friend that does...Very nice place. They are in the conciere collection, so i'm not sure if they are affected by the RCI deal. Someone else here may have more information on that.

I have stayed at the Sagamore and it is very very nice. I also have taken groups (150 customers of the bank that I work for)to this hotel for a luncheon. They all said they wanted to come back and stay overnight. It is situated on one of the most beautiful, clean lakes in the U.S. The Sagamore is the jewel of the lake...
