my dbf has decided that he does not want to go to wdw so I will probably be going with my sister now. That means we will be a group of two girls with a five year old. my sister will be 17 a week of 18 and I will be 25 however I don't look much older than my sister. we will be staying on site and be using Disney transportation. I don't drive so will probably get a taxi to Universal studios.

how do I know if the taxi firm is safe, do the Disney hotel book taxis for guest on request? do they use a particular firm?

we are staying at AKL.

Any safety tips?

dont talk to any strange mice? :rotfl2:
Sorry seriously, just use your common sense, dont give out any information you dont need to, ie room number when charging to room, let the check in staff know you are alone and they will be more vigilant, call transfers etc. Disney staff are very well trained, and they will be able to advse you on taxi firms etc, and i am sure if you are concerned they will be able to get you a female driver. I "lost" dh for a day last trip and i felt very safe and secure even with three small kids in tow. You are a brave intelligent woman, and you are more than capable of doing this, just remember to enjoy yourselves!!!

I'll echo that exactly, don't spend all your time worrying and as long as you're not wandering around downtown by yourselves in the dead of night you'll be very safe. I think whilst you're on WDW property you'll feel very secure, just remember when you go out to malls, other attractions etc that they're not disney. My mum and I went alone with my then 6 yo son and we went loads of places by taxi, we never felt threatened or unsafe at all.

There is a gate with a security guard at the entrance to the AKL and the staff there is awesome. As someone suggested, tell them at check-in that you are alone and they will help you in every way possible. I have toured WDW alone and also have stayed alone at the AKL. No problems what-so- ever. I also did something that I wouldn't do anywhere else, I slept with my sliding glass balcony doors open. I figured, who's going to climb in, a giraffe?
Have a wonderful time! :sunny:
