Is it safe to rent points on the rent boards? How does it work how do you protect yourself? I saw a reservation that looked interesting that said they could not use a 2 bedroom and we're looking to rent their reservation for 9 dollars a point is it to good to be true ? Do people get burned?

Over the past 17 years, there have been very, very few problems with DVC rentals using our DVC Rent/Trade Board.

However, there are several things you can do before sending any $$ to a complete stranger over the internet and they are outlined (along with other suggestions/cautions for both potential renters and DVC members) in the IMPORTANT!! - **How to use this Board** - PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING - Updated 9/1/14 thread at the top of the board.

Good luck! :)

We have rented points many times now -- Once through David's DVC, but mostly through private people that I have found through forums such as this. We have been very fortunate and have had great experiences.

We have paid $10 - $14 per point depending on the resort. We are a small family of three so studio units work well (particularly for our budget). Renting DVC is usually at least 50% less than hotel rack rates.

We stayed at Aulani, Grand Floridian, Grand Californian and Bay Lake Tower.

I do my best to research the folks that rent to me. Google searches, etc. Only one time, the renter was suspicious (e.g. would not share any personal information), so I decided not to rent from that individual.

Good Luck!

I've been a rentee once (via these boards) and a renter once (via David's) both are so safe and secure.

Either position is scary but if you follow the suggestions and tips provided it can be a very safe and rewarding experience for everyone.

Also as a rentee I fully agree, it can come out to be 50% less then rack rate. For us we did 2 normal hotel rooms so renting DVC was such a savings, even the 2 Bdrm villa saved us money.

After renting once, we got hooked and bought.

Look at the members activity in the board and with due diligence you should not have problem, good luck.
