I have a question for those of you have flown out MCO since the new security measures were started. I am not too nervous about my flight to Orlando, but I feel queasy about flying out of MCO, because I so many of the hijackers had been staying in Florida. I read on the MCO website that they are doing 100% passenger/bag matching. Has anyone experienced this? Are they still doing this? I am afraid they will stop it before my October trip. Also, the web site said they were wanding people immediately before boarding. Has anyone experienced that? Also, are they patting people down? It didn't say that on the web site, but it sure would be nice if they were. Any other info on the safety of MCO would be appreciated. I am so nervous about flying, but my DH won't even hear of driving, which is dangerous, too, anyway! Well, please help me out here guys...

All I can tell you is about our experience from MCO to IND last Friday(Sept. 14). We flew on Delta Express flight 2144. The only difference for us was no curbside check-in, we were asked for our ID at the metal detector area, plus the usual ID check at ticket counter and no person was allowed past metal detector besides ticketed passengers. Some persons had their check-in and/or carry-on bags searched, but we did not. You are not allowed to take sharpe objects on plane with you.

Worrywart,
I would say that the safety of the Orlando airports and the Nashville airport (where I assume you are flying from are the same). Orlando has a reputation as being one of the better run airports in the US.

According to the TA my company uses you may or may not be wanded again at the plane, it just depends. Personally, I think these measures are here to stay. I hope that skycaps can begin checking luggage, but I just don't know if they can. The guys in Nashville have always been so nice to me and I hate to see them losing their income.

Gary: You know, I was nervous about flying before this and I'm even more nervous now. We are flying from Indy to MCO in 40 days, maybe. My DH is flying out the morning before we are, and DD, my sis and I the next day. I'd feel more comfortable if DH was with us. We're still contemplating driving. We've done this many times, but didn't want DD to miss any more school than 3 days (would have been 5). I'm surprised they didn't do more checks. My cousin flew from San Diego to Indy over the w/e and he was searched as well. He's a cop for Indy and was joking with the lady doing the body search (she knew he was a cop) about "I do this for a living, hey, this isn't a date ;) ) They ran his laptop through 2x. He's in JAG for the reserves as well which is why he was in CA for 2 wks.

Also, I saw on TV that the airport was pretty sparce and restaurants and shops were losing money was well. Some said they didn't see a customer for 4-5 hrs. Were there not that many passengers?

Two of my friend's husbands work for United and ATA. I don't know if they are part of the layoff.

I to am flying out of Indy in 60 days. I am nervous but I feel obligated to keep the economy going. The security is tight and I believe the terriost like to work on the element of suprise and the us expects them to hit the air again so chances are they won't
