Now that my lil' boy is walking, I'm even more concerned about safety, especially in the hotel room. What safety items are you planning to pack? This is what I can think of so far:

first aid kit/band aids
electric socket covers
name tags
suntan lotion

But I'm at a loss for other items, although I know I need other things too - any ideas?

I always pack these things as well

Pedialyte (target or kroger brand, since it's cheaper)
Benadryl
Children's Tylenol
Children's Motrin
Kid's Pepto tablets
Aloe Vera gel
Neosporin (although dd6 is allergic to it, so Hydrogen Peroxide for her)
Travel size flouride rinse
Dental floss picks

As you can see, I like to be prepared--but I can guarantee at one time or another I've needed at least a couple of these items.

We carry an emergency kit with us that includes

Children's Tylenol
Motrin
Aleve
Benedryl for kids and adults
Neosporin
Bandaids of all sizes
Tums
Pepto
Migraine medicine
safety pin/ mini sewing kit
Imodium
extra set of contacts
re-wetting drops
1 poncho per day per person plus one to cover stroller

NOT in the emergency kit but since you asked about the hotel room, we always bring a travel can of Lysol spray, travel pack of Clorox Wipes, and a power strip (they never have enough plugs in the room).

Well, they took my good ones! Here's the rest of my list:

Night light
Chapstick
Vaseline
Alcohol swabs
Lots of things to clean the room (for surfaces, light switches, remote, phone, door knobs, etc.)
Baby powder
Tweezers
Manicure scissors
Paper towels
Anti-bacterial gel
Digital thermometer
Sunscreen

We always take the door knob covers so that is one less worry about them letting themselves out.

I aways took one of those things to go over the door to keep it from going all the way closed. Bathroom doors at resorts are heavy and can mash fingers and SOMETIMES three year olds lock the door with all your toleties in there and it takes forever for housekeeping to come open it up;).

I think the only safety thing I brought for my oldest who was 15 mo old on her first trip was the socket covers. When I brought my other 2 (they were 22 mo & 2½), I didn't bring them.

I do bring bandaids, meds, etc...

I realized the amount of time we were in the room it wasn't like she (or the other 2) were going to get in a heap of trouble.

Not that you know from experience, right? ;)

If your little one sleeps with a nightlight at home, you might want to bring one.

I take Clorox wipes and wipe down door knobs, phone, remote, etc. I know you can't kill every germ in the room, but it makes me feel better. :rotfl:

I see where sunscreen has been mentioned, but I always take lip protectant with some type of sunscreen in it. My lips tend to burn. Have a great (and safe) trip!

thank you for ALL the great ideas! I now have a lot of additions, like aloe, door knob covers, cleaning wipes and more thanks to you guys.

And we are planning on spending a bit of time in the room as we splurged for a one bedroom suite - otherwise we would have not gotten any sleep with the lil' one knowing we were in the same room as he was!

I took a roll of Scotch tape. I covered the outlets with a strip or two and used a little on the drawers to prevent smooshed fingers.
