We are driving from Ohio to Orlando in July. It has been a number of years since we have driven. We are leaving around 6 and driving all night (18 hrs). We have 3 drivers so not so bad.

My question is does anyone have a favorite, safe rest stop or place that they stop on 77South between WV and SC? Those will be the states we will be in in the middle of the night. We always stop for gas around 11 so we don't have to stop until day break to get any. One of the teens or me usually have to stop for a rest room break.

Thanks for any help.:thumbsup2

Personally I don't do highway rest stops in the wee hours, no matter how clean or well-lit. They just don't have enough traffic to feel safe.

Truck stops are actually your best bet when driving overnight. They are open 24/7 and always busy at night.

Princeton, WV has a welcome center that is nice and safe and directlt infront of a Wall Mart if you would happen to need anything. heading south you would take the Princeton exit and then turn left at the top of the off ramp and go through 2 stop lights and take a right. Sounds like alot but you cant miss it.

There is a nice rest area at the Va and NC border that we always use.

Plan on filling up in Wytheville Va if you can. Gas there is always cheaper than anywhere else down that stretch.

I Live just outside Princeton and Travel south to NC quite abit. Further south than Charlotte I am not to sure about.

Hope this helps. You will need $6 to get through 3 different $2 tolls in WV also.

Have a great and safe trip. Wish I could hop a ride with you.

We always used Tamarack near Beckley WV. It is a turnpike type service area with 24 hr food, clean restrooms, and fuel if needed.

Wytheville was our usual fuel stop both north and southbound.

We slept at the NC Welcome Center southbound and had no problems.

We also tend to favor 24 hour Truck stops over rest areas now, especially Pilot or Flying J.

hey there, I was just wondering how your trip went and if any of my suggestions were helpful.

Our trip was great. Didn't want to come home. We did stop at most welcome centers and used a few 24hr truck stops in the middle of the night. It worked out great. We also stopped at Tamarak to fill up about 11pm. We never felt unsafe.

For anyone traveling soon watch your speed. We saw a lot of police pulling people over. We set the cruise control at the speed limit and left it there.
