Safari v Firefox on iMac

I have recently moved into Mac territory for the first time with a new iMac all-in-one desktop, but the big struggle for me is getting used to the Safari web browser as opposed to IE. It's probably just a problem with familiarity but there is also something of the 'you can't teach an old dog new tricks' here ( :scared1: ) and one of the computer geeks at Best Buy has suggested I try Firefox as my web browser rather than Safari. Does anyone have any experience, good or bad, dealing with these, as I suspect Firefox may also have its limitations??!!

I have not got a Mac, but do have FireFox. Very easy to use. I really can't get away with IE, I never use it anymore.
I have just got Safari, it came free with a download from Itunes. I am not too keen on it, much prefer FF.
Can't wait to get a Mac though.....:)

I'm a longtime Mac user and I much prefer Firefox to Safari... :thumbsup2

It sounds like there is not a lot of support for Safari, LOL! But have any Firefox users come across anything that they can't do using that browser, as I've heard stories of people not being able to access some fairly common websites, and it's no good to me if I can't search through all the travel industry sites, for example.

I've never come across a website I couldn't access. It tends to resist pop-ups but you can easily override that feature as/when it occurs... :goodvibes

As firefox is open sorce its less prone to viruses ect,as it`s nout to do with microsoft.Son at uni doing computers has mac and swears by firefox

Personally, I prefer Firefox to Safari on our macs, but Deb uses Safari so 50/50 in this household.

I like the fact that Firefox remembers your passwords for websites.

It's definitely just a case of getting used to macs after a PC. We've used mainly macs for a few years now (albeit we do still have a PC, which I need for work), and there seem a lot easier to use than PC's - most of the time;)

I'd always considered Macs inferior to PCs, but a couple of years ago when I was in the market for a new laptop, I fell in love with the looks of the iBook. I didn't need it to be particularly powerful as Matt and I both had all-singing all-dancing Dell laptops for work, plus a Dell PC. Believe it or not, I bought it simply so that I could DIS from the sofa! I thought I'd never get used to the functionality after a PC, but it soon became second nature. And rather than being second rate, I found that it actually has some really nifty operational tools (albeit I think Windows has probably plagiarised a lot of the cool stuff now) such as "hot corners" and tabbed browsing. I also love that all the software looks and behaves identically (iTunes, iPhoto, iWeb, et al). Also, you have to give props to Apple for being brave enough lauch the iMuff. :rotfl:

About 18 months ago we invested in an iMac, so we're now a two Mac household. I use Safari out of habit and because I've got all my Bookmarks set up in that. We've always had Safari and Firefox installed on both machines, though, and it's very simple to launch either from the Dock. Occasionally I have problems with certain websites (tends to be with shopping carts. online ordering and the like), so I'll then use Firefox. You can run both browsers simultaneously, so it's no biggy.

If I've been using Safari for a long period, it will sometimes become slow and eventually lock up. It seems to eat up RAM and then fail to release it, even when you're not doing anything. The trick seems to be to close Safari periodically (actually quit it rather than simply closing the windows or tabs) and relaunch it - that then frees up RAM.

OK, I think I'm decided that I'm going to give Firefox a try, as it seems to have more of the functionality I'm used to with IE. Fingers crossed......!!

And thanks to all for their opinions; they are a big help. :thumbsup2

Like Deb I use Safari out of Habit but I think Firefox is better :)

Not a Mac person. but do use Firefox on a PC - much better then IE and there are some great add-ins for it :)
