We were in AK for the deluge during Thanksgiving week this year. It was nuts....I think about 9 inches fell in one day, set a bunch of records. They even pulled us into Dinosaur ride for shelter because a Tornado touched down nearby. Anyway, we only stuck around for our 10:45 breakfast reservation at Tusker House....it was torrential non stop rain.
We tried to do the safari before breakfast but it was closed. We rode the train round trip instead to Rafiki's Planet Watch. Ended up not getting off since the petting zoo was closed with the weather. Headed back and Safari was still closed, but we did our breakfast. AFter breakfast, safari was just opening back up. Turns out that only reason it was closed was because the water was too high at a few points for the trucks to get through safely. The main area was at the elephants and at the end where Little Red used to be. We INCHED through those areas, the water was only about 2 inches below the door. The animals seemed fine though, but they weren't terribly active.
