We signed up as a Grand Gathering for our upcomming trip Oct 15-23. There will be 9 of us total and we booked the Safari Celebration Dinner. I am wondering if anyone else has done this before? A couple years ago we did the Sunrise Safari while staying at AKL and the breakfast at Tusker House ws wonderful. I had lunch there once and had the beef Stew in the Bread Bowl again it ws really good. I am wondering what will be on the menu for the dinner after the Safari. I do believe it is a buffet but was wondering if there ws anyone out there who had actually done it and remembers what kinds of food are there?

We're booked for Sunrise Safari in December. Conceirge's was telling us about the afternoon safari/dinner. It's sounds nice. Are you referring to the one that's $150.00 per person, adults only?

If so, it's comprised on 7 different appetizers and small portions of many entrees (for tasting). It is to give you the "real" feel of African foods, family eating traditions and history.

Check with Conceirge's a day or so before your gathering and they can give you a brief description of the menu being served.

Have a great time.

Nope not that one. The one we are going on is on the list of Grand Gathering things you can book. Ours is not Adults Only and I think it was 50 something apiece. Anyone have info on this one??

Hi!

I was lucky enough to experience this as part of a Magical Gathering in July. We (party of 12) did the Safari Celebration Dinner and also Illuminations Dinner and dessert gathering. The safari dinner was excellent. The food was unique but even our picky eaters enjoyed themselves. Ask if Bryon is working and request him. He was terrific as a waiter. Has the Disney spirit always. The food was "family style". Our party of 12 sat together and were served bowls and platters of food to pass around the table. Everything from salads to dessert. Before the dinner we were to check in at the Flights of Wonder theater. We met our guides for the evening and "Mama" our mistress of the evening ;) ,took a magical gathering family picture and then walked over to KS for our sunset safari ride. Only those participating in the grand gathering were riding so there was plenty of stretching room on the trucks and lots of animals to see. We would definitely do this again when we have the numbers required for grand gatherings. Hope this helps. Have a great time.

Belle16127,

I went through my vacation stuff from July and found some of the items from the Safari Dinner (they will give you the recipes if you ask). Here they are:

Salads: Green bean salad, Cucumber and tomato salad with yogurt and mint dressing, Green salad with balsamic vinnegrette, fruit salad with mint glaze.

Main Dishes: Cape Malay Lamb Curry, Tandori Chicken, Prime Rib and Salmon in marinade.

Side Dishes: Black eyed pea bean cakes, roasted potatoes, moroccan vegetable stew and cous cous. There were also three chutneys: mango, dried fruit and apricot raisin.

I do not remember all of the desserts. We were all pretty full. But I couldn't pass up a bite of chocolate cake. It was good.

I also am not sure if the menu stays the same or changes for different times.

Hope this is the information you wanted.
