If anyone is doing this, can you please share your decorating ideas with me?

The one thing is that it will be an indoor classroom and flamable stuff is not allowed or alot of stuff that could hang from the ceiling and create a fire hazard. The fire marshalls are so strict around here, like no real bale of hay etc.

Also I dont want to spend a ton of money. So far I am am thinking of making horseshoes from cardboard or paper etc. Have 2 horse calendars with pictures from the dollar store. I am thinking of making feed bags from paper and just gluing some oats on one, corn on one etc.

On another web site I saw about making a cactus. Do you think a cactus and some fake snakes by it would be too scary for little ones?

Anyone have any fence ideas? Also I dont know about a real pail, shovel etc.

Any info is appreciated, TIA.

Have you looked on the publisher's web site? I took a quick peek over there and saw that they have a forum set up to help with that VBS.

We're doing SonForce Kids Special Agents from Gospel Light this year (a VBS from 2007 that is currently being phased out by GL). I went onto their forums and got a ton of ideas from those that have done it in the past to help us out.

I tell ya, VBS forums from any publisher are a HUGE help when planning. Especially for the new year's current VBS, you can share ideas or ask for help.

Good luck :thumbsup2

Do you have a Hobby Lobby near you? They have an entire section with 'Western' themed items to decorate! We found some great things. What age will you teach? I love the fake snake idea and don't think that the kids would be bothered by them once they know that they are fake!

You could get bandanas and tie them together to make something like streamers. On the last day, you could take the bandana streamers down, untie them, and give one to each kid to take home. A nice parting gift and you've already gotten one thing cleaned up! Hobby Lobby has them for $.99 each, but they were 50% off when I was there.

I work in preschool crafts, so we've been having fun trying to come up with things to do. You'd think that it would be easy, but it is actually a little bit difficult for ages one - five! It was surprisingly easier with the Hawaii theme!

another suggestion is oriental trading has western theme might give u some ideas there or even items to buy.

We've had teachers make fake campfires in the past.

Take some bricks or rocks and place in a circle. (Put them on a pizza pan to make the easier to move.) In the very center, place a fan (facing up towards the ceiling) with streamers (red, orange, yellow to respresent flames), and then loosely pile some wood in the center making a small bonfire shape. Plug it in and turn on the fan and the wind will blow the "flames" up through the logs.

We even had a teacher add lights to hers one year. For story time, she turned out all the lights and gave each child a flashlight and they told stories by the "campfire." It was a huge hit.
