Our are your trying to tell me that the fire bombings of Dresdan/Toyko both of which killed more people than either nuclear attack was soley done to hit military installations and all the civilian deaths were a oops???

You are aware that all of this took place prior to the passing of most international laws governing warfare, right?

Now, back to the discussion at hand: Silky, unless you have more details about this incident than the rest of us, I would think that your comments about "summary execution" may be conjecture at this point. You may well be correct, but I'll wait to see what the "official" reports say as more details become available . . .

Let's consider the opposite view. I would think the the US military would prefer to CAPTURE the sons, rather than kill them, if at all possible. After all, it would be much more humiliating and demoralizing for any remaining Saddam supporters to have these two thugs in captivity, than to have them go down in a blaze of bullets, thus becoming "martyrs" to their cause . . .

I agree with you, DEB. Of course, this was the Allied forces' approach in establishing the Nuremburg trials for crimes against humanity. However, as several posters here have indicated, there is considerable sentiment to kill the Husseins as an expression of outrage over their history of murder/terror.....

I agree totally. I would think they would be more useful alive, and in our custody, in either providing information or being used as leverage in locating their father.

It's not about the outrage of the HISTORY of the despicable, unspeakable, hainous, ugly, horrific, heart wrenching, disgusting crimes that they committed against other human beings, but I'm glad they're gone so that they can never, ever have any control or be in charge in the smallest, least bit to be able to do it again in the PRESENT and the FUTURE!

And if I were a mother, father, sister, brother, aunt, uncle, friend, nephew, niece, cousin, grandmother, grandfater, son, daughter of one of the soldiers that you are posting about on another thread, or if I were the child who had to dig through one of the mass graves in Iraq for my mother, or a sister or brother who were innocent of any crime except breathing the same air that those men breathed, you can believe that I'd feel that way even more!

BAGHDAD (Reuters) - The U.S. military said on Tuesday it had confirmed that the two sons of Saddam Hussein (news - web sites), Qusay and Uday, had been killed in a fierce gun-battle in northern Iraq (news - web sites).



"We're certain that Uday and Qusay were killed," Lieutenant General Ricardo Sanchez told a news conference in Baghdad. "We've used multiple sources to identify the individuals."


Sanchez said the U.S. military had been given a "walk in" tip that Qusay and Uday were in the villa in Mosul that was raided by U.S. forces earlier Tuesday.

Okay, fair game, but let's equate the two. So, how many people that died when the towers crashed to the ground were killers, rapists, mass murders, torturers at the time of their deaths? How many of those people either in the tower or trying to rescue those in the tower were trying to destroy an entire race of human beings with mustard gas when they were killed? If you can tell me how many fit that description, then I'll wear the shoe, Stinky.

And -- how could you possibly know what any of us felt or knew on or soon after 9/11? Were you here?
